After years of planning and building, DeLaSalle’s largest project in more than fifty years is finally complete. DeLaSalle’s Center for Innovative Learning, full of state-of-the-art technology and educational resources, enables students and teachers to work individually, in small groups, or as an entire class to advance their education. This space in the newly redesigned center of the school represents the innovative learning that occurs at DeLaSalle. This project – the largest improvement of its kind in modern school history
– puts DeLaSalle among the first high schools in Minnesota to add such a facility, just as we were among the first to implement a 1:1 tablet technology program six years ago. The completion of this project is a major success and something for all Islanders to be proud of. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this campaign! For more information, click here.
Welcome Back Students!
DeLaSalle started the 2016-17 school year August 22 with 780 students ready to learn. After an all-school assembly to welcome everyone, students reported to their 1st hour class, found their locker, and began the new semester. Welcome back, Islanders, it’s so good to see you!
Mass of the Holy Spirit and CIL Blessing
Archbishop Bernard Hebda on August 31 celebrated the opening school year Mass of the Holy Spirit with the DeLaSalle community. After Mass, the archbishop – surrounded by students, staff, parents, and guests – stood in front of and blessed DeLaSalle’s new building addition, which includes the Center for Innovative Learning. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the capital campaign in order to make this day possible! For more info, click here.
International Student Dinner
DeLaSalle welcomed 15 international students and their host families to a new school year with a dinner and program in the new Active Learning space. School leaders, including Chinese teacher and Global Advantage Program assistant Dr. Chang-li Huang, explained the role of the international student program and how DeLaSalle can support international students and their host families. The dinner marked the first in a yearlong series of cultural experiences
for the international students.
The Gala Approaches!
The Christian Brothers’ Gala is DeLaSalle’s only student scholarship fundraiser. This benefit raises more than $350,000 each year to support De students. Reconnect with old friends. Meet new parents, seasoned parents, alumni, staff and friends. A party with a purpose, the evening features both live and silent auctions, dinner and entertainment. Bob Dorff ‘57
Bob went to teach English in Anqing, China about 10 years ago. He doesn’t have students anymore, but he is well known in his daily outings and engages people who just want to speak English. Sometimes they even ask him critique their pronunciations and grammar. Bob and his wife recently embarked on their journey back to the USA – a day and a half to be exact – to attend his brother Roger Dorff’s
’57 daughter-in-law’s funeral. During his time back, he was able to attend the Class of 1957 annual fall luncheon. He doesn’t know when he will return to the USA again but it was a pleasure to see him at the event.
Ellie Engelen ‘09

who God made them to be. Maddie’s launching will take place on Saturday, September
10th from 11:00am – 5:00pm.

Update Your Contact Information!
Calling all Islanders! In the next year, we will be rolling out a multitude of new opportunities for alumni and friends to get involved in the community. One of our main goals is to improve and increase our contact information, so that
we can better serve you and inform you about chances for reconnection! As part of this project, we are looking for volunteers who would be willing to help track down classmates that we have lost touch with. If you are interested in assisting in this effort, please contact Christian Glanville at firstname.lastname@example.org. In the meantime, please take two minutes to update your contact information here so that you don’t miss out!
