A Blessed Advent Begins
As people of faith, we begin preparing for the celebration of the birth of our savior. As is our tradition at DeLaSalle, there will be much time for prayer and many opportunities for service throughout the season. We recognize that this time of year can be stressful and difficult for many in our community. If you would like to be added to our community prayer list, please let us know. Campus Ministry will be accepting donations which will be used to support current families and friends of DeLaSalle in need. If you would like to contribute to this effort, you may drop off grocery store gift cards in our main office or click HERE and select Advent Gifts in the drop down menu to donate online.
DeLaSalle Offers Virtual Open House on December 6
On Monday, December 6, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., DeLaSalle High School hosts a virtual, interactive Open House for prospective students and their families. In 2020-21, we offered two such virtual Open House experiences, and we’re excited to once again offer this informative, unique, high-level view of DeLaSalle’s compelling mission and college preparatory curriculum.

We invite all prospective parents and middle school students to join us from the comfort of their own home — via a series of interactive, online sessions. This will provide a nice supplement to the on-campus Open House experiences at DeLaSalle in October and January and the many opportunities for family tours or student day visits.

Families will need to pre-register for the December 6 Open House via our website at www.delasalle.com; in turn, we will send the link(s) to all pre-registered families with instructions as to how to join the presentations on Monday evening. (We already know of one family joining us from Nepal and another from Massachusetts, each planning to move back to the Twin Cities next summer – but we welcome Twin Cities residents as well!)

Multiple breakout sessions will be offered: academic philosophies and programming; spirituality, ministry and Faith; college planning; student activities; financial aid and scholarships, learning support; school culture; and more. A student panel of several current ninth graders will also be available to answer questions and speak about their transition into DeLaSalle this fall.

To pre-register for the December 6 Open House or to set up a family tour or student day visit, or to learn more about the admission application process, please visit the Admissions section of the website, contact admissionsoffice@delasalle.com, or call Mike O’Keefe at 612-676-7679 or Christian Glanville at 612-676-7618

Chelsea Hoops – Second Coach to Earn Honors This Fall
Congratulations to Chelsea Hoops, the varsity volleyball coach at De.  Chelsea has been named the Section 3AA Coach of the Year by the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association. Under her leadership, the Islanders finished with an 18-10 overall record, as runners-up in the Tri Metro Conference and advanced to the section final, just one step away from a state tourney berth.  Five members of the program earned All-Conference honors.

Chelsea is the second Islander coach to earn such honors this fall, joining boys’ soccer coach, Ryan Nichols, who was named Section 5AA Coach of the Year by his peers in October.

Christmas Carols at Dayton’s Minneapolis

students singing

The site of the former legendary Dayton’s department store is now a combination of office, retail, and entertainment spaces. A revival of the days when a visit to Dayton’s 8th floor wonderland or the street-level decorated window displays was a holiday tradition for many is underway with holiday music provided by local talent. The DeLaSalle Theatre holiday singing group, The Christmas Carols, were selected to perform on December 2, with additional performances happening Tuesday, Dec. 7 and Friday, Dec. 17, 3:00pm – 6:00pm (both days).
School Picture Orders
Packets of school pictures and student ID cards were distributed to students. Information on how to order additional photos was included in the packet. You may also go to the Lifetouch website; DeLaSalle’s “Picture Day ID” is EVTQG4FDK. Order forms are also available from Ms. Gallagher in the administration office. Picture Retake Day is scheduled for December 10.
Building Closes Early on Friday, December 10
The school building and offices will close at 3:30pm on Friday, December 10 to allow the staff and faculty community to attend their holiday gathering. Students and families are asked to plan transportation accordingly.
Getting Ready for the End of First Semester
Students are reminded to be kind to themselves as the first semester comes to an end; reduce the stress level by using good study habits to prepare for finals. Students are encouraged to use this Finals Prep Tool to help prepare for finals and map out strategies for each day. Once notes have been taken notes and reviewed, it is time for testing.  These Testing Strategies help students be successful with finals. These tools and more can be found on the DLS Library Homework help page in Canvas.
First Semester Finals Week Schedule
The first semester concludes on Friday, December 17 with final assessments for all students on Thursday and Friday, December 16 and 17. The schedule for finals week is…
Monday, 12/13 = Periods 1 – 4
Tuesday, 12/14 = Periods 5 – 8 + WIN Session
Wednesday, 12/15 = Periods 1 – 8 (usual Friday schedule)
Thursday, 12/16 = Finals in Periods 1 – 4

On Friday, there is no WIN Session. Instead, there will be an early release at 1:30pm, buses depart at 1:45pm. Brunch items and snack food will be served during 7th hour lunch waves.
Immaculate Conception Mass, December 8
On Wednesday, December 8, at 10:00am, DeLaSalle students and staff will celebrate Mass in recognition of the Immaculate Conception holy day and the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Plan to Attend the De Christmas Concert, December 13
Families, alumni, students, and friends are all invited to join us on the island for a festive evening on Monday, December 13! Get into the Christmas spirit as the A Cappella Choir, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band present both traditional and popular holiday tunes!
Christmas Liturgy and Program, December 14
On Tuesday, December 14, the students and staff will prepare for the Christmas season with a prayer service and program. Scripture, prayer, reflection and song will help the Islander community reflect on the birth of Christ, the reason for the season of hope, wonder, kindness, and faith.
Christmas Break December 20-31
There are no classes at DeLaSalle December 20 – 31 as we observe Christmas break. The school will be closed December 24 for Christmas Eve but will be open during normal business hours from 8:00am-4:00pm all other weekdays, and there will likely be athletic practices during the break. The second semester begins on Monday, January 3.
National Honor Society Members Inducted November 30

DeLaSalle congratulates 63 11th and 12th grade students who earned academic recognition with induction into the National Honor Society at an evening ceremony on Tuesday, November 30. Tiffany (Trawick) Johnson `09, a public speaker and Marketing Manager at the Penumbra Theater, provided an inspiring keynote address to assembled honorees and their families.

The inducted students have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, chose to apply for membership, and were selected based upon their scholarship, service to school and community, leadership, and personal character –the four pillars of the NHS.

The new inductees join 59 returning members of the DeLaSalle NHS chapter who were previously inducted in the 2020-21 school year. The DeLaSalle chapter of the National Honor Society was established in 1929, part of a society recognized in high schools and by colleges across the country.
