Community Gathers Tuesday for Thanksgiving Prayer Service
On Tuesday, November 26, the DeLaSalle community will gather for a prayer service to reflect on our blessings and give thanks to our generous and loving God.
Thanksgiving Break November 24-26
We wish all DeLaSalle students and families a blessed and safe Thanksgiving with loved ones. There are no classes as we observe the Thanksgiving holiday November 24-26. The school building will be open during normal hours Wednesday, but faculty do not have to report and many staff will be taking a well-deserved vacation day. Prospective visitors are advised to contact a staff member via the Staff Directory to make sure they would be in the building on Wednesday. The school building will be closed both Thursday and Friday in observance of the holiday. Note that many of winter sports programs will have practice during the break, though not on Thanksgiving itself. The next “Looking Ahead at DeLaSalle” will be published on Friday, December 3.
National Honor Society Induction Ceremony November 30
DeLaSalle congratulates those students who will earned academic recognition and induction into the National Honor Society at an evening ceremony on Tuesday, November 30. Tiffany (Trawick) Johnson `09, a public speaker and Marketing Manager at the Penumbra Theater, will provide the keynote address to assembled honorees and their families.

The school will be inducting 63 students into the National Honor Society on the 30th. The inducted students are 11th and 12th graders with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, who chose to apply for membership, and who were selected based upon their scholarship, service to school and community, leadership, and personal character –the four pillars of the NHS.

The 63 new inductees join 59 returning members of the DeLaSalle NHS chapter who were previously inducted in the 2020-21 school year. The DeLaSalle chapter of the National Honor Society was established in 1929, part of a society recognized in high schools and by colleges across the country.

In addition to the upcoming National Honor Society induction ceremony, DeLaSalle also recognized a total of 373 students at individual grade level ceremonies November 9 and 11 for their outstanding academic performance in the 2020-21 school year. Those students in grades 10-11-12 received pins for being on the Honor Roll or High Honor Roll for both semesters last year and/or they earned Academic Letters for earning a place on the Honor Roll for a minimum of four semesters.

School Picture Ordering
Packets of school pictures taken by all students on November 10 will be distributed to students shortly after Thanksgiving break. Information on how to order prints will be included in each packet. Picture Retake Day is tentatively scheduled for December 10.
Mentor Meetings Tuesday, November 30
Students will meet with their academic mentors to discuss first semester progress and preparation for semester finals the WIN sessions on Tuesday, November 30. Students are encouraged to bring assignments or projects that they can work on while mentors meet one-to-one with each student.
Winter Sports – Final Registration Reminder
Winter sports are now beginning. DeLaSalle offers boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ hockey, boys’ swimming, wrestling, winter sideline cheer, and, new this year, nordic skiing. Students should register here as soon as possible so that you can receive important information about practices and the team. You must also have a current physical on file with the Student Activities office. Students who have registered for a winter sport are encouraged to attend or participate with their family in PAC (parent athlete coach) meetings for each sport. These meetings provide you with helpful information for the upcoming season. You can find when PAC meetings are scheduled for each sport here.
Take a Look at DeLaSalle
We continue to welcome prospective students and families who want to explore this unique school on Nicollet Island. Prospective students can see what it’s like to be an Islander for a day. Student guests take a closer look at what it means to be a De student by following a ninth grader through a day of classes. Eighth grade students are invited to choose a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday to visit DeLaSalle. We will do our best to ensure that each student is able to attend the classes that interest them most. Click here to schedule an Islander for a Day visit.
De Hosts “Live/Virtual Open House” on Monday, December 6
Because of the success of the first such event in 2020, we will again offer a Live/Virtual Open House for the Class of 2026, a complement to the on-campus Open Houses of October 25 and January 5! On Monday, December 6, we will invite prospective families to take a look at our wonderful school community from the comfort of their living rooms and learn why so many from across the Twin Cities are choosing to become Islanders. More detailed information will be posted after Thanksgiving break, but be sure to spread the word to friends, family members and colleagues about this opportunity.
Immaculate Conception Mass, December 8
On Wednesday, December 8, at 10:00am, DeLaSalle students and staff will celebrate Mass in recognition of the Immaculate Conception holy day and the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Plan to Attend the De Christmas Concert, December 13
Families, alumni, students, and friends are all invited to join us on the island for a festive evening on Monday, December 13! Get into the Christmas spirit as the A Cappella Choir, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band present both traditional and popular holiday tunes!
Christmas Liturgy & Program, December 14
On Tuesday, December 14, the students and staff will prepare for the Christmas season with a prayer service and program. Scripture, prayer, reflection and song will help the Islander community reflect on the birth of Christ, the reason for the season of hope, wonder, kindness, and faith.
First Semester Final Assessments
The first semester concludes on Friday, December 17, and there will be final assessments for all students in the final 2-3 days as the semester closes. Exact details will be communicated soon, but all students and families should make plans now to be prepared academically, and be fully rested and ready to end the semester successfully.
Christmas Break December 20-31
There are no classes at DeLaSalle December 20 – 31 as we observe Christmas break. The school will be closed December 24 for Christmas Eve but will be open during normal business hours from 8:00am-4:00pm all other weekdays, and there will likely be athletic practices during the break. The second semester begins on Monday, January 3.
