In the news…

Islanders, it’s time to show your school spirit during Homecoming Week! This year’s Homecoming theme is “The comeback is stronger than the setback.” There are lots of ways for you to get involved. Check it out here!

Out of Uniform Days

Today’s dress up day is Islander Day. Show off that Islander pride! Students may wear any DeLaSalle apparel, black and gold/yellow, or Hawaiian shirts and shorts. You may also want to wear your brand-new Homecoming T-shirt.

Remember, you must follow all Out of Uniform Guidelines during Homecoming Week.

Homecoming T-Shirts on Sale

The 2021 Homecoming t-shirts are here and will be sold during lunches today. T-shirts cost $10. Buy one and show your Islander spirit!

Pepfest

We will gather for our Homecoming Pepfest at the end of the school day. In addition to competing for the spirit stick, we welcome Lucas Kaster ’00 as our alumni speaker. Lucas is a local attorney who recently was inducted into the DeLaSalle Hall of Fame as a member of the 1999 state championship football team.

DeLaPalooza

At the conclusion of the Pep Fest, we will head into DeLaPalooza. We plan to have games/activities outdoors, as well as a food truck(s). Students will need to bring money for the food truck. Steve the donkey will also be in attendance. Bring $1 (proceeds go to StuCo). All activities will be moved off of the Athletic Field by 4:30pm in preparation for the game, however, other places around the building will still be in use until 5:30pm.

Pancake Breakfast

Join us on campus tomorrow for a pancake breakfast! The cross country and softball teams are sponsoring the breakfast, which goes from 11:30am-1:30pm in the Florance Center. The cost is $6 per person. Then stick around to watch the girls’ varsity soccer game at 1pm and the boys’ varsity soccer game at 3pm.

Homecoming Dance

The Homecoming Dance is Saturday from 7:00-10:00pm on the athletic field. Dance tickets cost $5 and will be sold during lunches starting today. Islanders are allowed to bring an outside guest but must complete and submit this Dance Guest Registration Form by the end of the day Friday. Make your song requests here.

DeLaSalle is hosting a vaccination clinic! We are providing the opportunity for those who are not yet vaccinated against COVID-19 to get a vaccine today between 3:00-6:00pm in D104. Anyone who is 12 years or older and is eligible to receive a vaccine may get their shot at the school – and those who get a shot can receive an incentive for doing so! Vaccinating nurses will bring the Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson vaccines. Only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for those ages 12 or older.

Pre-register today so we can have enough vaccines, though walk-ins are welcome. Students who are younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian’s consent to receive the Pfizer vaccine. The vaccinating nurse will accept verbal consent over the phone, so make sure your parent is available by phone if you call them or have them present with you at the vaccination.

Firewood is still needed for the bonfires at the Friday night football game and Saturday night homecoming dance. We are looking for families who can donate some dry oak or other good dry firewood and kindling. Please drop off on the side of the garage next to Brother’s Plaza. There is a tarp on the side of the garage where you can stack your wood. Thank you for your support! Please contact Stacey Carter with questions.

You can explore nearly 400 colleges and universities during a virtual National College Fair on Sunday from 12:00-5:00pm. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER for this free event and see when other fairs are scheduled. Students who used this resource last year reported positive feedback about the experience. It is open to all ages and we encourage our students and families to check it out.

Five highly selective colleges and universities are hosting a series of information sessions this school year to help you better understand the admission process. If you are interested in attending Harvard, Princeton, Wellesley, UVA, or Yale,  you should register for the information session that is happening this Sunday from 6:00-7:15pm. Click here to register.

Seniors will be meeting with their college advisors in small groups over the next two weeks either during lunch or WIN sessions. Students are required to attend these sessions and they will be a great help and provide a small group environment where you will learn how to get started on applications and answer any questions if you have already started.  Meetings will be held in B104 and students will receive a Google Calendar invitation to their specific meeting.

Each year college admissions representatives from across the country visit DeLaSalle to meet with students who are interested in their college or university. After a year of virtual visits, many admissions representatives are back on the road and scheduling time at DeLaSalle. Click here to learn how you can take advantage of these opportunities and how you can see which schools are scheduled to visit DeLaSalle in your Naviance account. More colleges are added to the list daily.

Come and see what the Environmental Club (formerly known as the Green Team) is all about. The club will have its first meeting after school on Tuesday. Meet in the kitchen after school. Snacks will be provided.
