DeLaSalle Celebrates Homecoming Week September 7-11
Our annual Homecoming Week celebration begins on Tuesday! This year’s theme is “The comeback is always stronger than the setback” referring to the obvious community enthusiasm for being back together on campus after a hybrid learning year. Visit the Homecoming webpage for more information. Homecoming activities include:
  • Out of Uniform Days: Students may dress out of uniform throughout the week according to each day’s theme (eg Pajama Day, Class Color Day, College Merch Day, Islander Spirit Wear Day) or wear a school uniform. Students dressing for the theme days must follow these Out of Uniform guidelines.

  • The Homecoming prayer service will be held Wednesday, September 8 at 10:00am. We welcome Linda Blair ‘11 back to campus to provide the alumni reflection. Linda received her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and is completing her law degree from the University of California-Berkeley. She is currently a judicial law clerk for the Minnesota Supreme Court.

  • Students are invited to a Homecoming Bonfire/Karaoke/Movie Night on Thursday, September 9. The event begins at 6:00pm with the bonfire and karaoke on Brothers’ Plaza. The movie will show at 7:30pm on the athletic field.

If you have a supply of dry oak or other good firewood or kindline to donate, please contact Stacey Carter to arrange drop off. Thank you for your support.

  • The Homecoming Pepfest and royalty coronation will be held at the end of the school day on Friday, September 10. Our alumni speaker is Lucas Kaster ‘00, a local attorney who recently was inducted into the DeLaSalle Hall of Fame as a member of the 1999 state championship football team. Following the Pepfest, students are invited to DeLaPalooza, an afternoon of fun games, activities, and food, before the Homecoming football game at 6:00pm.

  • As a special treat, current parents and alumni will be grilling and selling hamburgers during the Homecoming football game. Alumni and friends are invited to join DeLaSalle in a beer garden in Founder’s Park that will open at halftime of the game and continue after the game.

  • Home athletic contests – including volleyball, football, boys’ and girls’ soccer. On Homecoming Saturday, the cross country and softball teams are hosting a pancake breakfast from 11:30am-1:30pm in the Florance Center. The cost is $6 per person.

  • Students are invited to the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 11, from 7:00-10:00pm on the athletic field. Students may bring a guest to the dance, but must register the guest by Friday, September 10.

DeLaSalle Will Be Closed Labor Day
DeLaSalle will be closed and there are no classes on Monday, September 6, as we observe Labor Day. We wish you and your family a relaxing three-day weekend.
For Parent Drivers: Know Where to Drop Off, Pick Up Your Student
Thank you for partnering with us to provide a safe environment for students, staff, and community members, who travel in, near, and around DeLaSalle. We ask you to note and follow these morning drop-off and afternoon pickup protocols (see a map here).

Eighteen school buses and vans arrive at DeLaSalle each morning; these vehicles have the right-of-way on the drive in front of DeLaSalle. Parents/guardians arriving at school with their children should proceed east-to-west through the parking lot to drop off their child in the lot, leaving the drive in front of the school clear for school buses and vans. Please note that, following drop-off, vehicles should exit via West Island Avenue.

In the afternoon, buses are the only vehicles allowed to pick up students on the drive in front of the school. The City of Minneapolis has installed “15-minute loading zone” street signs on West Island Avenue that will allow parents/guardians to temporarily wait along the curb closest to the school to pick up their children. Please be courteous to our Island neighbors and others who use the Island by pulling as close to the curb as possible to let other vehicles pass.

Community COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Offered Next Friday
DeLaSalle will host an on-campus community-wide COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Friday, September 10, between 3:00-6:00pm in the Schulze Lab (D104). Anyone who is 12 years or older and is eligible to receive a vaccine may get their shot at the school – and those who get a shot can receive an incentive for doing so! Choose from the Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccines. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one dose. The Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines require two doses. DeLaSalle is planning a second vaccination clinic in the weeks to come to provide the second dose to those who receive their first dose on September 10.

Please pre-register to let us know how many vaccines to have available. However, walk-ins are welcome. Students who are younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian’s consent to receive the Pfizer vaccine. The vaccinating nurse will accept verbal consent over the phone, so parents should be available to answer their child’s call or be present with your child to grant approval.

Thank you and your student for helping our entire community stay safe and healthy with our COVID-19 protocols. Learn more about our mitigation strategies here.

Now Accepting Auction Items for the Christian Brothers’ Gala

We need your help to make the DeLaSalle Christian Brothers’ Gala an exciting evening on Saturday, October 9! We have a wish list of auction items that we’d love to offer at the Gala. Choose something you would like to donate and sign up. Or, maybe you have an amazing item or experience that we haven’t even thought of yet. Great! If you think it would be a fun item to win, then our bidders will too! The Gala is our only all-school scholarship fundraiser each year, and we look forward to celebrating the birthplace of St. John Baptist de La Salle with ‘A Night in Reims.” Learn more about the Gala and reserve your spot today!

Martin Marrin Named a National History Teacher of the Year Finalist
Congratulations to social studies teacher, Martin Marrin, who this week was named one of ten finalists for the National History Teacher of the Year award! Mr. Marrin earned Minnesota History Teacher of the Year honors earlier this summer, which automatically qualified him for the national award. The national winner will be announced later this month. All Students Can Receive Free Breakfast and Lunch Daily
DeLaSalle students can receive a free breakfast and lunch each day at school. The DeLaSalle Cafe is able to offer this option to students through the Seamless Summer Option of the National School Lunch Program. To receive the free breakfast and lunch, a student must choose the full entree and a fruit or vegetable. Students who wish to purchase a la carte items must have sufficient funds in their LunchTime account.
Class Masses Begin Tuesday, September 14
We are excited to once again offer the opportunity for students in each grade to celebrate Mass together as a class. Class Masses are organized by Lasallian Ministry and celebrated by school chaplain, Fr. Kevin Kenney ‘78, who is the pastor of St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Class Masses will begin the week of September 14 and be held on Tuesdays during the WIN period. Each class will gather once this fall for Mass at nearby Our Lady of Lourdes. Twelfth grade students will have their Mass on September 14; 11th grade on September 21; 10th grade on September 28; and 9th grade on October 5.
College Planning Night for Seniors and Parents Offered This Month
The DeLaSalle College Advising and Counseling office invites all 12th grade students and parents to learn more about the college planning process at College Planning Night for Seniors and Parents. The program will be offered in English on Wednesday, September 22 and in Spanish on Wednesday, September 29. Each program runs from 6:30-7:30pm in the Schulze Learning Lab (D104).
Child Psychologist to Speak to Parents About Post Pandemic Student Success September 20
The DeLaSalle Parent Association is back for the 2021-22 school year. The Association took last school year off because of the pandemic, but has scheduled a popular and informative speaker for its first meeting of this school year. Child psychologist, Dr. Teresa Boatman, will speak about “Inviting Student Success Post Pandemic” on Monday, September 20, at 6:30pm in the Schulze Learning Lab (D104). Please note that, generally, the Parent Association meets on the second Monday of each month. However, Dr. Boatman is not available on our regular meeting date. Dr. Boatman’s presentation on the topic was well received by faculty and staff when she presented during DeLaSalle Educator Week before the school year began. All DeLaSalle parents are members of the Parent Association – and we invite you to join us on the 20th!

You can track your child’s academic progress at your convenience as a Canvas observer. Canvas is the learning management system used by students and faculty to complete coursework. Around DeLaSalle
