First Day of School is Monday, August 23

The first day of classes for all students is Monday, August 23. The school day begins at 8:30am and the school community will gather for a pepfest to begin the new school year.

Students will attend 80-minute classes in periods 1-4. Students will receive an email this weekend with their final official class schedule, locker number and combination, and other important information. Please note that the class schedule students receive this weekend may be slightly different than the schedule they previously received.

Students Must Be Dressed in School Uniform

Starting Monday, all students must be dressed in school uniform. The Dean of Students office offers these reminders about proper uniform attire from the Student-Parent Handbook:

  • Appearance: Uniforms must be neat and clean at all times.
  • Pants: Must be full length, cotton fabric, khaki or black, no inset pockets, no joggers, jeans or yoga style.
  • No sweatshirts, jackets or coats: You may wear a solid black cardigan or a crew neck/sweater with the De logo on it
  • Shoes: Must be predominantly black, brown, white or gray.
  • Skirts & Shorts: Must reach the top of the knee, No rolled skirts or shorts

The School Store, located on the first floor of the A building, will be open on Monday, August 23, from 7:00-9:00am for students and families who wish to make any last-minute uniform purchases before the start of school.

Face Coverings Required Inside School Building

As a reminder, everyone must wear a face mask inside the school building. Please ensure that the mask fits properly over your nose and mouth. Masks may be removed to eat or drink, but should be worn at all other times while in the school building.

Other Reminders

Students are generally not allowed to bring food or drink into a classroom. However, individual teachers may permit students to bring water in clear bottles. DeLaSalle offers several hydration stations throughout campus that allow students to refill their water bottles.

School Transportation Starts Monday

School transportation routes will begin service on the first day of school, Monday, August 23. Families who requested transportation service have received both a letter and an email with their child’s bus stop location as well as pick up and drop off times. Please make sure your child is at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pickup time. The letter included instructions on how to access and use an app for tracking your child’s bus while it is in route.

DeLaSalle Cafe Offers Free Meals; How to Deposit Money into a Student’s Cafeteria Account

The DeLaSalle Cafe will once again offer a qualifying free breakfast and lunch to all students this school year, through the Seamless Summer Option of the National School Lunch Program. To receive the free meal, a student must adhere to USDA guidelines, which require the full entree, including a serving of vegetables or fruit, and a milk with their meal.

Students who wish to purchase a la carte items must have sufficient funds in their LunchTime account. Families may deposit cash or check in the lunch payment box located in the Main Office and any funds placed by 9:00am on a school day will generally be credited by the time lunch begins. Families may also deposit funds electronically (learn more here).

DeLaSalle offers school meal benefits through the Minnesota Department of Education. A family must submit an application to be considered for benefits; a new application must be submitted each school year. To apply for benefits, complete and submit an application online. The online application portal is different than the LunchTime system you may use to track your child’s cafeteria purchases or deposit money into your child’s account. Click here for more information.

Important Contacts to Know

Students and families who have questions about a variety of topics may wish to keep this helpful list of important contacts handy.

Come Work for DeLaSalle

DeLaSalle has several immediate openings for hard working individuals who have a passion for working with students! The Cafe has three part-time openings for a cashier, dishwasher, and food service prep position. And we are still seeking transportation drivers to operate morning and afternoon school routes and various activity routes. Learn more about the positions and apply here.

Students Invited to Audition for Fall Play “3 Musketeers”

Students are invited to audition and sign up for tech crew for the upcoming fall play, 3 Musketeers. Auditions are Wednesday, August 25 and Thursday, August 26, from 3:30-5:30pm on the Florance Center stage. Students may pick either day to audition; no previous experience is necessary. Callbacks will be held August 27 as needed. Students who audition should wear comfortable clothes that allow for movement. The fall play will be performed November 12-13 and 19-20. Email James Buffington with questions.

Mass of the Holy Spirit Will Be Celebrated Thursday, August 26

The school community will gather for the opening school year Mass of the Holy Spirit on Thursday, August 26 during the WIN period that begins at 10:00am. School chaplain, Fr. Kevin Kenney ‘78, who is the pastor at St. Olaf Catholic Church in downtown Minneapolis, will celebrate the Mass with us in the Florance Center. Lasallian schools across the world celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit to ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all parts of our life as we begin a new school year.

Save the Date: School Picture Day is Thursday, September 2

All students will have their school picture taken on Thursday, September 2. Families may order school pictures from the Lifetouch website using DeLaSalle’s Picture ID EVTH8XXQK.

Students and Families May Volunteer, Earn Grants through Islander Foundation

Students and families may register to volunteer through the Islander Foundation. Volunteers typically sell concessions at local venues, including Target Field, Target Center, and US Bank Stadium – and venue operators have guaranteed that the foundation will have a stand to operate as the number of fans in attendance increases. Concessionaires contribute funds to the Islander Foundation for the volunteers’ service and, in turn, volunteers may request grants to offset fees and expenses associated with attending DeLaSalle. Visit the Islander Foundation website to learn more about the foundation and how to register to volunteer. Contact Islander Foundation coordinator, Carlos Villagomez, with questions at 612-676-7607.
