Welcome Back to 2021-22
We’re excited to begin the 2021-22 school year with you. As you likely know, all back-to-school information is on our website here. If you have not yet done so, please review a separate email we sent that outlines our mitigation strategies to open the school year.
FINAL CALL: Back-to-School Forms Required for Enrollment
A handful of DeLaSalle families have not yet completed the required Back-to-School forms for their child, which include forms that are mandatory for students who wish to participate in athletics on August 16 and begin school on August 23.  We have emailed a link to the forms to the primary contact in each household more than once and as recently as this week. Please complete these forms immediately. Thank you.
Fall Sports Practices Begin Monday
Practices for all fall sports begin Monday, August 16. You can find more information about the first day of practices under each sport on our Athletic Programs webpage. Remember that, in order to participate in any sport, students must register for the sport and have a current physical on file with the Student Activities office. Current is defined within the last three years. If you have questions about whether your child’s physical is current or has been received, please email the Activities Office.

We also encourage you to review the PAC (parent/guardian, athlete, coach) meeting for each sport that will provide all of the information you need about the upcoming season. Watch the Activities Director Fall Sports Welcome and visit the Athletic Programs webpage to find PAC meeting information for each sport.

Calling All Thespians! Auditions Next Week for Fall Musical
DeLaSalle Theatre will hold auditions and tech crew sign-ups for its upcoming fall musical, Chicago: High School Edition, and fall play, 3 Musketeers. Auditions for Chicago are August 16 and 17, from 5:00-7:00pm, in the Florance Center, with callbacks on August 18. Auditions for 3 Musketeers are August 25 and 26, from 3:15-5:00pm, in the Florance Center, with callbacks on August 28. All students are encouraged to audition; no previous experience is necessary. Find more information about auditions here. Email Mr. Buffington with any questions.
School Uniform Orders Ready for Pickup; Shop the School Store
Families who placed an online order before July 16 may now pick up their school uniform items from the DeLaSalle School Store. Students and families who need to purchase new school uniform items can still shop from available inventory at the School Store. The store is located in the first floor lobby of the A building and will be open each day Monday-Thursday next week and on the morning of the first day of school. Visit the School Store webpage for hours and more information.
Orientation Programs for Class of 2025 and New Transfer Students and Families on August 19

We welcome the arrival of over 220 new students as ninth graders and transfers this fall.   Orientation times are now confirmed for three different programs on Thursday, August 19.

All new ninth grade and transfer students will participate in New Student Orientation during the day.  Students must be dressed in school uniform and should check in between 8:00-8:20am. The 9th grade program runs all day, ending at 3:00pm, and includes lunch provided by DeLaSalle. The transfer students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon and their orientation includes a continental breakfast but no lunch. All new students will meet new classmates, receive a copy of their class schedule, meet teachers and learn more about the campus, connect with key administrators and support staff, and receive other help in their transition to the first day of classes on Monday, August 23.  These daytime orientation programs are required and are for students only.

We highly encourage all parents and families who are new to DeLaSalle (or who have a new student joining in Class of 2025 and transfer group) to join us for a“New Family Orientation” on the evening of the 19th. This program will include a Welcome Cookout starting at 5:30pm, introductions and presentations from various administrators, explanations of school practices and protocols about attendance, lunch, lockers, uniforms, and more. Families may also deposit lunch money into their child’s account and meet with other important school personnel at the school orientation.  The entire program should conclude between 7:00-7:30.  It will be great to welcome our newest members of the DeLaSalle community that evening!

College Advising Office Hosts Essay Writing, Online College Application Workshops

The DeLaSalle College Advising and Counseling office will host two free workshops for seniors on Friday, August 20. Both events are held on campus; the location is to be determined. Seniors do not need to register but should bring their iPad if they plan to attend.

  • The Essay Writing workshop is on campus from 11:15am-1:15pm. Seniors, get a fresh and unique approach from a professional writer (and one of our English teachers) to make YOUR college essay memorable. Come to this workshop and your college essay is certain to stand out to admission counselors.

  • The Online College Application workshop is from 1:30-3:30pm. Seniors: YES, it is time to get started. YES, you will be so happy you did! Step-by-step instructions to completing your online college applications with your college advisors.

Faculty, Staff Gather for DeLaSalle Educators Week

Faculty and staff will spend the week of August 16 preparing for the new school year as part of DeLaSalle Educators Week. Employees will have limited availability throughout the week because of their attendance at required meetings. The best way to contact an employee during the week is to send an email and you can find employee contact information in our online Staff Directory here.

Check Email for School Transportation Route Details

School transportation routes will begin service on the first day of school, Monday, August 23. Families who requested transportation service will receive a letter from Northstar Bus Lines with their child’s bus stop location as well as pick up and drop off times. This letter will also include instructions on how to access and use an app for tracking your child’s bus while it is in route. Families will receive a separate email from the school with the specific route information for their child.

DeLaSalle is seeking transportation drivers to help run both school and activity routes throughout the year. We offer a flexible schedule and great pay for the opportunity to connect with students, provide a vital service, and make a positive impact. Please review the job positing here and apply today!

Students Will Receive Class Schedules Today

All registered students will receive their 2021-22 class schedules in an email today. Students should email Student Services if there is a course change. Please note that course changes may impact student schedules and a final official schedule will be emailed to students on August 21.

Summer Coursework Due August 23 for AP, Honors Courses

Students are reminded that the teachers of several Honors and Advanced Placement courses have assigned summer coursework. Many of these assignments are due on the first day of school on Monday, August 23. Find what coursework is required on the Back-to-School webpage.

What School Supplies Does My Child Need?

DeLaSalle encourages all students to have these supplies when they begin classes on Monday, August 23.

  • Notebooks
  • Pens and pencils
  • Folders
  • Backpack (for home to school use)
  • DeLaSalle cinch bag (for use during the day)

School Supply Reminders

Students in Algebra 1 and Geometry should have a scientific calculator. Students in Algebra 2, Precalculus, Statistics, and all Calculus classes should have a graphing calculator. Note: Casio and TI-Inspire graphing calculators are not recommended.

Each teacher and course may have specific requests for school supplies. Students will hear about this on the first day of classes.

The School Store will again sell draw-string bookbags this year that are the only approved bag for carrying items during the school day. Backpacks are to be used only to carry items from home to school and back.

Parking Permits for School Lot Sold Out: Nicollet Island Pavilion Overflow Lot Available

All student parking permits for the main DeLaSalle parking lot in front of the school have been sold. However, parking permits are available for the Nicollet Island Pavilion overflow lot, which is located south of the Hennepin Avenue Bridge. If you had attempted to reserve a spot in the main school parking lot, but did not receive an email with a payment link, you are still welcome to purchase for the Nicollet Island Pavilion overflow lot. Those permits are sold in the Main Office and cost $280 for the year. Students and parents in the Classes of 2021, 2022, and 2023 should look for an email early next week with a link to purchase a permit for that overflow lot.

Unlimited Bus, Train Rides with Metro Transit Student Go-To Pass

A Metro Transit Student Go-To pass offers students unlimited access to all regional trains and buses and is a perfect way for students to travel about the Twin Cities. The pass costs $97 per quarter, but Metro Transit is offering the pass at half price ($48.50) for the first and second quarter of this school year. You may purchase a pass in the Main Office.

DeLaSalle Cafe Offers Free Meals; How to Deposit Lunch Money

The DeLaSalle Cafe will once again offer a qualifying free breakfast and lunch to all students this school year, through the Seamless Summer Option of the National School Lunch Program. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved a waiver that helps support access to nutritious meals while minimizing potential exposure to COVID-19. In order to participate in this program, students must adhere to USDA guidelines, which require a serving of vegetables and/ or fruit with their meal.

Students who wish to purchase a la carte items must have sufficient funds in their LunchTime account. Families may deposit cash or check in the lunch payment box located in the Main Office and any funds placed by 9:00am on a school day will generally be credited by the time lunch begins. Families may also deposit funds electronically. To create your child’s LunchTime account and to deposit money into it, please click here for instructions.

Register Now for Student Clubs and Organizations

Students are invited to register to participate in a student club or organization here. Many clubs will hold their first meeting within the first weeks of school. Learn more about which activities DeLaSalle offers here.

Save the Date: School Picture Day is Thursday, September 2
