We pray for the individuals, the churches and ministries and the other organizations who care enough to be sensitive to the plight of those without homes and who are doing something about it. Grant them wisdom, enough resources of every kind, and the courage to persevere. We pray these things in the name of the Savior who never stops caring.

In the news…

Social Justice Week is happening this week and our theme is “Homelessness in Minnesota: Our Call to Charity and Justice.” Thanks to all who helped with our service project yesterday after school. There are still ways for you to get involved:

  • After school today, students will have the opportunity to help make sweet potato comfort pies, tie blankets, write letters, package laundry supplies, and more. If you want to help today, sign up here. Space is limited and we can only accept 30 students to help.
  • Tomorrow, you will have the chance to participate in sweet potato story sharing circles during WIN. Story sharing circles are a way to engage in dialogue regarding identity, community, and bridge-building and discuss ways to work for charity and justice for all. Sign up in Ms. Stecklein’s session in SST for an online discussion. Sign up in Pablo Cardenal’s session in SST for the on-campus option. The on-campus session will be held in the Florance Center. Students who participate in the story sharing circle can earn one Christian Service hour.

Show your generosity for Social Justice Week! Students are challenged to show they can raise the most change for change by bringing in change during their lunch period. Proceeds will help local organizations supporting those facing homelessness, including:

  • St. Stephen’s Shelter
  • House of Charity
  • Sharing and Caring Hands/Mary’s Place
  • Bridge for Youth
  • People Serving People

Islanders are encouraged to bring in full size toiletries to donate to people fleeing domestic violence and seeking addiction treatment. These items will be donated to Missions, Inc., a Twin Cities nonprofit that operates shelters for people experiencing domestic violence, substance abuse disorder, and homelessness.

Items Collected:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Lotion
  • Soap
  • Lip balm
  • Hair brushes
  • Toothbrushes
  • Razors
  • Deodorant
  • Floss

Parent-Student-Teacher conferences will be held virtually this fall and are scheduled on Wednesday, March 10, from 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00-5:00pm.

Parents may schedule 7-minute conferences with their child’s teachers using the MyConferenceTime software. We recommend you schedule your conferences now to secure your preferred date and time, keeping in mind that teachers will have breaks scheduled throughout conferences. You may sign up individually by teacher or choose the “Register for Multiple Time Slots” option on the MyConferenceTime webpage. Conferences will be conducted via Google Meet and you will receive the meet code in a confirmation email after scheduling the conference.

Juniors, you have a chance to get some useful information for your college planning this week and next during WIN sessions.

  • Learn all you need to know about performing arts and fine arts colleges this Friday during WIN session #2 with De’s own Mr. Buffington!
  • Then, join us Tuesday during WIN session #1 to get help interpreting your PSAT score and figuring out which test to take depending upon your preference and performance on the PSAT and the Pre-ACT.

The WIN sessions are under Ms Braun’s WIN sessions to sign up.  Please use this link.

Current 11th grade students are invited to apply for scholarships available through the DeLaSalle Alumni Association. The application is available here and the deadline to apply is Friday, March 12. Five scholarships are awarded in honor of alumni who have had a significant impact on DeLaSalle – and recipients will have the scholarships applied to their tuition for the 2021-22 school year.

Sophomores, please complete your next activity in Naviance by March 12th.  It’s called “Do What You Are” and it’s a personality assessment combined with career exploration.  Check your email for a message from Ms. Stipkovits with video instructions.

Islanders are invited to attend and even lead a session at the Youth in Education Leadership Summit being held the last weekend in April. The free online event is hosted by the Minnesota Youth Council and showcases the work of young people involved in positions of leadership in their schools and communities, who are working within the same system and toward similar goals regarding education and equity. The summit’s focus on Saturday, April 24 is community action workshops and on Sunday, April 25 is legislative action workshops. If you are interested in attending, you may register here.

If you are interested in leading a half-hour or one-hour session, please fill out this form! We value the time and effort it takes to lead a workshop, so we’re also providing stipends for students facilitating sessions! The priority deadline for presenters is March 8.

Questions? Contact Minnesota Youth Council representative (and Student Council co-president) Bolu Ilelaboye.

All spring sports will begin on March 29th. DeLaSalle offers baseball, softball, boys’ and girls’ golf, boys’ tennis, track and field, and boys’ and girls’ lacrosse. If you want to participate in a sport, you should register here as soon as possible so that you can receive important information about practices and the team. You must also have a current physical on file with the Student Activities office. Don’t forget to sign up for your sports Remind Code by following these directions.

Students interested in baseball should register immediately and place an order now for required practice gear so it arrives in time for the start of the season. Baseball players are required to purchase a practice jersey, hat, belt, socks, and game pants here. Players may also purchase optional gear, including practice pants, cage jacket, and hoodie, among other items.

DeLaSalle families may order a supply of healthy breakfast and lunches for the days when their student is not on campus because they are participating via distance learning.

  • Students participating in hybrid learning may order a meal kit that contains three breakfasts and three lunches each. Families may use this form to order the meal kits. Orders must be placed by noon on the first day the student attends in-person instruction (Monday or Thursday) and picked up outside the kitchen at the end of the school day on the last day they attend (Tuesday or Friday).
  • Students participating in full distance learning may also order a meal kit that contains five breakfasts and five lunches each. Orders should be placed by noon on Thursday for pickup at 3:00pm on Friday. Families may use this form to place the order.

The meals are provided at no cost to families through an extension of the federal Summer Food Service Program.
