Class Schedule Week of January 18

DeLaSalle will observe the federal Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 18. There will be no school that day. Because of the holiday, Gold Cohort students will learn at DeLaSalle on Tuesday and Wednesday. Silver Cohort students will learn at DeLaSalle on Thursday and Friday. There will be no asynchronous learning day on Wednesday.

Student Activities Resume: Watch Winter Sports Competitions Online

Islanders have the chance to participate in a variety of student clubs and organizations, which have begun meeting in person again now that students have returned to campus. Many clubs schedule their meetings during the WIN (What I Need) sessions on Tuesday and Friday mornings to give the largest number of students possible the chance to participate. Meetings are also broadcast virtually so distance learning students can participate from home. Students can find which clubs are offered at DeLaSalle on the Activity Programs webpage. While registration for most activities has closed, students can email the club moderator or the Student Activities office to see if space is available.

Winter sports have also resumed on the Island. Boys’ hockey and wrestling held their first competitions yesterday. The first boys’ and girls’ basketball games of the season are scheduled for early next week. Public attendance at games is not allowed but you may watch a livestream of most games through the NFHS Network. Learn more here about how to purchase a subscription and watch the games.

Ninth Grade Islander Pride Day

Students in each grade will have an opportunity this semester to get to know their classmates better and build community during Islander Pride Days. The first Islander Pride Day is for ninth graders on Wednesday, January 27, from 12:00-3:00pm. This event follows the Iowa Test for Educational Development that some students registered to take in the morning. Ninth grade students and families should check their email inbox for a link to register for the event. Islander Pride Day is scheduled for 12th grade students on February 3, 11th grade students on March 17, and 10th grade students on February 24. Students and families in those classes should watch their email inbox for more details as the event date draws near.

It’s a Great Time to be an Islander!

Even in the midst of all the changes of 2020-21, we are excited about the robust (and growing) levels of prospective family interest and response to DeLaSalle. Thank you to all current families for the MANY positive referrals. Remind friends, relatives and colleagues that NOW is the time to join the many families who have visited the island and followed with application steps.

As of today, over 260 eighth graders have started an application for next year — between 25-50 new applicants each week since December 1. Over 125 eighth graders have completed the application process already, even though the application deadline is still four weeks away on February 12.  Given the strong early interest, we are sending the first batch of admission responses to families who have completed all admission steps to date, with two more response dates scheduled for early- and mid-February.  We are well on our way toward a full and high-quality Class of 2025 joining us in the fall, with multiple new inquiries still coming in each week.

DeLaSalle requires an Entrance Exam as one of the four pieces of the application for admission.  As an adaptation this year, DeLaSalle is providing options to meet the exam requirement for the Class of 2025: Students may submit a standardized test score from grade 6-7-8 (provided there are subsections within the exam in areas of Reading and mathematics and national percentile scores). OR students may register for an on-campus Entrance Exam in groups of 20-35 students apiece. that will be offered at DeLaSalle each of the next four Saturdays (January 16, 23, 30 and February 6, from 8:45am-12:00pm), as well as the next two Sundays (January 17 and 24, from 11:45am-3:00pm).

The deadline to apply for admission in this annual application cycle is Friday, February 12 (though we will continue to accept applications after February 12 and place new students if space is available).  Families who complete an application by the second priority deadline of January 29 will receive an admissions decision by February 5, with the third response date slated for February 19.  We also have welcomed incoming transfers for our second semester with the potential of more starting after the grading period concludes in their current school, and we are in conversation with several potential transfers who are inquiring for the fall.

Picture Retakes Scheduled January 25 and 28

DeLaSalle students who were not present for Picture Day in November or who wish to have their picture retaken may do so during Picture Retake Day. The retake day for Gold Cohort students is Monday, January 25 and for Silver Cohort students is Thursday, January 28. Students in the Blue Cohort can have their picture retaken either day between 3:00-4:00pm. Retakes will occur in the Schulze Learning Lab (D104A). Students who already placed an order but were not happy with their original photograph will have their package automatically updated with the retake photo. Students who missed the original Picture Day may order photos online before Picture Day or up to 48 hours after or wait until the photo proof arrives three weeks later.
