Lord, the good news of Jesus’ arrival brings such joy to our world! Reach those who are lost and searching with the message of hope that we have through the Messiah. God, allow your message of peace to bring comfort to our anxious world. As we all go about the holiday season, let the message of great joy pierce through all the noise and into people’s hearts. Amen.

In the news…
Students who want to improve their grade will be given the opportunity to turn in any late or missing work until Wednesday, December 16. Students will not be penalized below 60% for completed and passing work. Students who turn in an assignment that is inadequate or incomplete will be given the grade they earned but will not be further penalized for lateness. The objective of these changes is to allow students every opportunity to show what they know and complete the work required of them, recognizing the crisis of the pandemic and its effects on all of us.
The first semester will end on Friday. Teachers may assign end-of-semester assessments or projects that may be cumulative or unit-based. However, there will be no special schedules for final assessments and students will complete any work within the regular distance learning class schedule. Students may utilize WIN sessions and office hours to connect and seek help from their teachers. We wish all students a successful end to the semester.
DeLaSalle will celebrate Christmas with a virtual prayer service and program tomorrow. This annual program features Scripture, prayer, and a Christmas reflection from school president, Dr. Bryan Bass. Students will perform this year’s rendition of “The 12 Days of Christmas” and sing The Christmas Song.
Please note that, because of the program, we are adjusting Tuesday’s class schedule as follows:
- Period 5: 9:00-10:00am
- Christmas Program: 10:00-10:30
- Period 6/WIN Session 1: 10:40-11:10
- Period 6/WIN Session 2: 11:10-11:40
- BREAK: 11:40-12:10pm
- Period 7: 12:10pm-1:10
- Period 8: 1:20-2:20pm
Students may now register for a seven-week ACT test preparation class offered at DeLaSalle in January and February. DeLaSalle is partnering with Breakaway Test Prep to offer the 14-hour class starting January 12. The class will be taught on Tuesdays and Fridays during WIN sessions from 10:10-11:10am. The course includes unlimited full-length, proctored online practice exams and feedback on your student’s strengths and weaknesses. The course costs $645 (sign up early to save $100!). Financial grants are available; contact Barbara McAdams at 612-676-7621 for more information. Learn more here and register here. The Guidance Office offers additional ACT test preparation resources, which you can find here.
Students should update to iOS 14 over Christmas break to ensure app functionality. App updates will be pushed out periodically over break. Please make sure this update is completed before January 4, 2021. Make sure your device is backed up to the iCloud before updating. The update can be found by going to Settings > General > Software Update. If you do not have enough storage available on your device, please delete any non school apps and/or apps you do not need for school to make room for the update.
A popular Christmas tradition at DeLaSalle will take on a new twist this year because of the pandemic. Join us this Saturday at 7:00pm at delasalle.com for a virtual “Christmas at DeLaSalle.” This first-of-its-kind broadcast combines the annual Christmas concert and DeLaSalle Theatre’s performance of “A Christmas Carol” into a virtual event instead of drawing hundreds of students, alumni, family and friends into the Florance Center for a live on-campus event.
We are excited to showcase the work of nearly 200 students involved in the fine arts! Students in the a cappella choir, concert band, chamber orchestra, and symphonic band are using the free music creation app Bandlab to prepare several songs for the concert. The cast and crew of DeLaSalle Theatre are using Zoom to record their performance of “A Christmas Carol.” Join us Saturday at 7pm at delasalle.com. The production will be available on demand following the broadcast.
If you are a student who lost your job this year because of COVID-19, you can now apply for unemployment benefits, according to a court ruling this week. You can learn how to apply for the unemployment benefits here. Applications must be submitted by December 25.
