No Classes October 16; Class Schedule Week of October 19

Remember that there are no classes for students on Friday, October 16 as part of the MEA break. Classes will follow our hybrid schedule the week of October 19, with Gold Cohort students reporting on Monday and Tuesday and Silver Cohort students reporting on Thursday and Friday. All students will participate in asynchronous learning on Wednesday. You may find expectations for Wednesday’s asynchronous learning here.

Academic Mentor Meetings Continue Tuesday

Students in the Gold Cohort will meet with their academic mentor during the second half of the WIN (What I Need) period on Tuesday, October 20. The October mentor meeting allows students an opportunity to check in with their mentors about their academic progress at the midpoint of the first semester. Silver Cohort students met with their mentors October 13. Mentors will check in virtually with Blue Cohort students.

Learn All About College Financial Aid on Monday

DeLaSalle students and parents are invited to learn all about college financial aid at the College Financial Aid Planning Night on Monday, October 19, from 7:00-8:00pm. This presentation prepares students, parents and caretakers on the many options for paying for college. Take away tools for navigating the new FAFSA; applying to colleges, researching scholarships, grants and loan options; all in a way that makes sense for your family. Joy Rockwell, associate director of financial aid at Saint Mary’s University, will present. Look for the Google Meet code on the Guidance page of the Islanders course in Canvas, which will also include links to resources from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and Ms. Rockwell’s presentation.

DeLaSalle Raises Record for Student Scholarships at Christian Brothers’ Gala

DeLaSalle hosted its most successful all-school fundraiser ever last weekend. The 2020 Christian Brothers’ Gala set records for the amount raised toward student scholarships and for the number of people participating. The annual event normally takes place in the Main Gymnasium at the school, but we could not gather a large group together this year because of the pandemic. Instead, we offered a virtual Gala experience. Supporters raised $751,101 in gross revenue, much of which supports the 2020-21 student scholarship program. More than 500 supporters registered and tuned in to the event from 18 states and overseas! Continue reading

DeLaSalle Reveals New Logo, Launches Branding Initiative

At our Christian Brothers’ Gala last weekend, we revealed our new logo, the first piece of a larger brand revitalization. This project was spearheaded by renowned graphic designer and Hall of Famer, Joe Duffy ‘67. Joe has been mentoring and collaborating with visual arts students for the last nine months to bring this design to fruition. You can learn more about their process and the meaning behind the new logo here. While we have quickly implemented the new logo and brand in some places, it will take some time as we phase the updated logo into such physical elements as school and athletic uniforms, exterior signage, and internal venues like the floor in the gymnasium.

Admissions Hosts Drive-Up, Virtual Open Houses October 24 and 26

Prospective students and families have the opportunity to experience DeLaSalle through a two event offering not found at any other high school. On Saturday, October 24, from 9:00am-1:00pm, we will host a Drive-Up Open House at the school, where those who attend will receive an informational packet, have the opportunity to tour the school, and participate in the Great Islander Scavenger Hunt! Two days later, on Monday, October 26, from 7:00-9:00pm, we will host a virtual version of our traditional Open House format, providing curriculum and program information to prospective students and families. Guests can hear form DeLaSalle students, faculty, and staff about what sets our school apart from the rest through a series of livestream sessions. Families may attend one or both Open House events. We encourage prospective students and families to register here for these exciting and unique introductions to DeLaSalle.

DeLaSalle Theatre Announces Physically Distanced Performances

The “stage” will look different, but students in DeLaSalle’s award-winning theatre program are excited to again perform for a live audience.

  • Join students for performances of “The Spitfire Grill” on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, at 2:00pm, on the Athletic Field. This “sing through” musical triumph is an inspiring celebration of fresh starts and the power of what one person can do. It tells the story of Percy Talbot, who seeks to find her way following her release from prison. The show is free, but seating is limited and patrons must reserve tickets here. Freewill offerings are accepted. Those in attendance must wear a face covering and practice physical distancing.
  • Theatre will offer a virtual performance in December of “1940s Radio Christmas Carol.” The recording will be available starting Friday, December 11. Watch for more information soon about how to view the performance.
  • Theatre is finalizing plans for the dates and times of a spring musical and we will communicate show details as soon as we have them!
Save the Date for School Pictures in November; Pre-Order a Package

Photographers from Lifetouch will take school pictures in November. A photographer will be on campus both Monday, November 16 (for Gold Cohort students) and Thursday, November 19 (for Silver Cohort students). The photographer will be on campus until 4:00pm both days for students in the Blue Cohort who wish to have their school picture taken after school. Students must be dressed in school uniform.  Parents may review, select, and pay for a photo package through the Lifetouch website. Parents will have up to 48 hours after Picture Day to complete their online order. Please refer to DeLaSalle’s Picture Day ID EVTBPRTKB.

David Bank Studios to Take Senior Photos in November; Senior Yearbook Ads Now Available

Seniors who wish to have their photo included in the school yearbook and in the class composite picture that hangs in the hallway must get a senior picture taken by David Bank Studios before December 15. A David Bank photographer will come to DeLaSalle for free on Wednesday, November 18; we will separately communicate logistics with the Class of 2021. You may also schedule a photo session at the studio; sessions start at $35. Families who choose to have pictures at the studio can select which photo to be included in the yearbook.

Families who are looking for a way to publicly recognize or pay tribute to their senior can also consider buying a Parent Senior Ad in the yearbook. Senior Ads are a huge part of the yearbook that students turn to right away when they receive their book. There are two ways to order senior ads:

You may design the ads yourself on the Balfour website (preferable), design them yourself, or have the yearbook staff design one for you. Parent Senior Ads orders are due by December 15.
