Fall Sports Begin Practices on Monday, August 17
The first day of practice for fall sports is Monday, August 17! Sports that will be offered this fall include boys’ and girls’ cross country, girls’ swimming and diving, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and girls’ tennis. As the Minnesota State High School League announced last week, football and volleyball will take place during a fourth season in early 2021.

Before a student can participate in a fall sport, he or she must complete the following requirements:

  1. Read, complete, and sign the MSHSL eligibility brochure
  2. Have a valid sports physical on file with the Student Activities office (current within the last three years)
  3. Be registered for the sport

Student athletes must also read and review the MSHSL COVID-19 notice, and, complete and return the DLS Self Transportation waiver if they plan to provide their own transportation to and from practices and competition.

Student athletes and their families should also download and create an account for Remind, a school-approved application that coaches use to communicate important team information, including changes to practices and competitions. Click here for instructions.

Buying School Uniforms and Picking Up Orders

The DeLaSalle School Store will be open several times over the next two weeks to sell school uniform items and distribute orders placed earlier this summer. The School Store will be open during the following times:

  • Monday, August 17: 12:00-7:00pm
  • Thursday, August 20: 4:00-7:00pm
  • Monday, August 24: 4:00-7:00pm
  • Tuesday, August 25: 4:00-7:00pm

Families picking up a uniform order should enter through the A building entrance. Visitors are required to wear a face mask while inside the school.

REMINDER: DeLaSalle Hosts Student/Parent Information Session Thursday, August 20

We invite all students and parents to join us on Thursday, August 20 for an information session as we share more detail about the upcoming school year. DeLaSalle will conduct the sessions via Zoom – one for English speaking families from 5:00-5:45pm and one for Spanish speaking families from 6:00-6:45pm. Presenters include President Dr. Bryan E. Bass, Principal Jim Benson, and Assistant Principal Martha Coughlan.

And, thank you to the many families who have taken the time to complete our Back-to-School questionnaire. The form allows you to indicate whether your child will participate via the hybrid model of instruction or via full distance learning, among other important questions that will guide our planning. Please respond to the form over the weekend, if you have not already done so.

Free Student Desks Available

Does your student need a designated work space at home? We have several student desks available free of charge as a result of updating classrooms to accommodate for physical distancing. Desks will be available for pickup at the school on Tuesday, August 25 and Thursday, August 27. If you would like a desk, please complete this form to indicate when you would like to pick up the desk. Desks have been sanitized and will be available for contactless pickup in front of the school during the time you select on the form. Desks become the property of the family and will not be returned to DeLaSalle.

Staff Participate in Employee Orientation Over Next Two Weeks

We are excited to welcome all faculty and staff for a two-week employee orientation program over the next two weeks. This professional development will help employees prepare for a successful start to the 2020-21 school year, including training for faculty on teaching in a hybrid model and with a block schedule. Faculty will also practice using the technology that will allow them to simultaneously teach students in a classroom and participating via distance learning. There are several days on which all staff will participate in meetings. You may find a staff member’s contact information through our online directory and we encourage you to send an email for the fastest response.

Parking Permit Sales Begin Monday, August 17

Student parking permit sales will begin Monday, August 17. This year, a student parking permit costs $320. Students may reserve a parking permit using a Google form, which will be emailed first to seniors on Monday, August 17, then juniors on Tuesday, August 18, and sophomores on Wednesday, August 19. . Only 90 permits will be sold. DeLaSalle will send a follow-up email August 19 to those students who have reserved a permit with a link to pay for the permit. Payments must be made by Friday, August 21 via credit card or electronic funds transfer, or a student forfeits their permit reservation. New this year, the cost of the permit will be divided by semester – and may not be charged if DeLaSalle transitions to a full distance learning model for an entire semester.

If student parking permits for the DeLaSalle lot are sold out, students may purchase a parking permit for the overflow parking lot on the south side of the Hennepin Avenue Bridge. These passes are sold in coordination with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and cost $280 for the school year.

DeLaSalle Offers ACT Exam for Seniors October 6

DeLaSalle is excited to offer an ACT test for seniors this fall at DeLaSalle. We are aware that many of our seniors have had difficulty scheduling an ACT test due to the closure of many test centers during COVID-19.

Save the date for Tuesday October 6. This school-based ACT test will take place during the school day at DeLaSalle. Students will sign up and pay for this test directly through DeLaSalle – and not through the regional registration procedure on the ACT website.

Senior students and parents should check their email soon for details on how to register and pay for this test if you wish to take it.

How to Deposit Money Into a Student’s Cafeteria Account

Students must have money in their cafeteria account in order to purchase breakfast or lunch items from the DeLaSalle Cafe. DeLaSalle uses LunchTime to manage cafeteria accounts. Families may create an account and electronically deposit money into that account for their student. DeLaSalle this year will not accept cash or check payments at the school to prevent the handling of currency. Click here for instructions on how to create and manage your LunchTime account. Bank account and credit card transactions are subject to a fee, charged by LunchTime. Online deposits will appear in the point of sale system within 30 minutes of completing the transaction. Please contact with questions.

Students Can Apply for Free, Reduced Meal Benefits

DeLaSalle offers school meal benefits through the Minnesota Department of Education. Interested families must complete and return an Application for Educational Benefits to Pam Beckman. Click here for the application (click here for instructions on how to create a LunchTime account). Students must apply for the lunch benefits each year, even if they qualified for the program in the previous school year.

Student Registration Open for Fine Arts Programs, Clubs, and Other Activities

There’s something for everyone at DeLaSalle, and our students do get involved!  Hundreds of DeLaSalle students participate each year in fine arts programs, academic clubs, and other organizations through our robust Student Activities program. Some groups compete and others do not.  Some are seasonal and others meet throughout the year.  These co-curricular activities provide students with opportunities to connect with their classmates, enrich their skills, and pursue topics that interest them. We encourage students to explore the many activities we offer here. And we invite students to register here to participate in a club or organization.
