We Are Preparing for the 2020-21 School Year

As we communicated when we sent you required Back-to-School forms earlier this week, we continue to plan for what the 2020-21 school year will look like. We will be ready to serve student and family needs in August, and we are planning for three potential, but inter-connected delivery models: on campus, in distance learning, or in a hybrid model where some will learn in person and some will connect via technology.  First and foremost, we will take care of each other’s health and well-being. Our primary academic goal remains the same — to prepare each student to be ready for their next level of learning.  Our 2020-21 Pandemic Planning Task Force has been meeting since spring and established a framework for how we deliver upon this goal and how we navigate the planning and implications of these various scenarios. We will communicate more information to you after Governor Walz issues guidance for schools the week of July 27. We will be ready to respond.

In the meantime, we ask you to partner with us by completing and submitting required Back-to-School forms for your child. We emailed a separate link to the forms for each child to the primary contact in the household. Thank you for completing these forms as soon as possible – and no later than Friday, July 17.

School Uniform Orders Due by Friday, July 17

Students who need new school uniform items for the 2020-21 school year should place an online order with the DeLaSalle School Store by Friday, July 17 to ensure timely delivery by mid-August. Orders placed online should be available for pickup at the school beginning August 17. The School Store is only open by appointment only. Please contact store manager, Douge Schildgen, with questions at 612-859-5652.

Protocol for Visiting Campus

Thank you for helping us all stay healthy. Visitors to DeLaSalle must comply with safety protocols we have implemented in response to COVID-19. Visitors should not visit the school if they feel sick and all visitors must wear a face covering while inside the school. Visitors who are not participating in activities should check and record their temperature at the Albers Atrium check-in station and follow all appropriate directional signage. DeLaSalle has placed hand sanitizing stations throughout the building to facilitate proper hand sanitation for employees and visitors.

DeLaSalle Launches Summer Bridging Academy

DeLaSalle will welcome more than 120 ninth grade students as part of a three-week Summer Bridging Academy that begins the week of July 20. The academy will help new students to get to know each other and their new school all the better before classes begin on August 24. Students will also learn how we use the iPad and apps as academic tools, and build or refresh their skills in English, math, and other subject areas. All students will gather on campus every Monday to participate in socially distant orientation activities. Students who choose to participate in the academy will also participate in on-campus learning and activities at least one other day during the week.

We are especially grateful to the 50 juniors and seniors who will serve on the Islander Welcome Crew. These veteran students will help orient their newest classmates to the rich history and tradition of DeLaSalle. New students who wish to participate should contact the Admissions Office immediately to secure a spot.

New Students Encouraged to Pick Up iPad by July 14

We have enjoyed seeing so many ninth grade and new transfer students over the past two days as they visit DeLaSalle to pick up the student’s school-issued iPad. New students who have not picked up their school-issued iPad from DeLaSalle should do so on Tuesday, July 14. Students may visit De from 1:00-3:00pm or from 4:00-6:00pm. Students should pull up to the clock tower school entrance, identify themselves to a staff member, and wait in a vehicle to receive the iPad. Students and parents should wear a face covering and not leave their vehicle. Students will also receive a technology log-in sheet with instructions about how to access the school network, student email, and Canvas account. Students with technical support question may contact

We’re Accepting Applications for 2020-21

The Admissions staff has fielded a large volume of online inquiries and application materials – and have been registering new students at all grade levels for August enrollment. We thank our many current families for spreading the good word about DeLaSalle. We are again conducting on-campus tours for prospective families, in addition communicating with families via phone, email, Facetime, Google Meet, Zoom, and all means available.  To learn more about admission, please visit here or contact Mike O’Keefe at 612-676-7679.

Student Activities: Limited Summer Training; Register for Fall Sports

Student athletes are participating in limited summer training activities on campus, under the supervision of the DeLaSalle Student Activities office. Coaches are holding activities outdoors whenever possible. For training that is held indoors, students must enter and exit the school through the exterior doors to the LL Gray Gym – and may only be in the Main Gym or LL Gray Gym. Students may only use the physical education locker room bathrooms located in the Main Gym. The Student Activities Office explains its on-campus protocols here.

The first day of practices for all fall sports is Monday, August 17. Before a student can participate in a fall sport, he or she must first sign and complete the Minnesota State High School League eligibility brochure, have a current physical on file with the Student Activities office, and register for the sport. Students can learn more on the Athletic Programs webpage.

Join Us August 7 for DeLaSalle Golf Tournament

Join us for a fun afternoon on the links as we support DeLaSalle students. Our annual golf tournament is Friday, August 7 – and this year we are excited to announce two new changes. First, we will play at the Theodore Wirth golf course in Minneapolis. And, second, we are excited to offer the opportunity to play disc golf at the same venue. Reserve your space today!

Save the Date for a Virtual Christian Brothers’ Gala

We have some big things planned for this year’s gala, which will be an online event for the first time in our history! More information will be coming soon about how to “attend” and what you will see, but for right now we can say … “It’s going to be a very exciting evening with lots of student involvement and a BIG surprise at the conclusion.”

How can you help? We’re glad you asked! Here is what we are looking for right now:

  • Please mark your calendar for the evening of Saturday, October 10. You’ll be able to “attend” from your own living room or back yard.
  • Donate an item or experience from our Auction Wish List.
  • Support those who support us. Many DeLaSalle businesses have been hit hard by COVID-19. You can double your gala gift by purchasing an item or gift card from a business owned or operated by Islanders. Help them and help DeLaSalle at the same time!

Please email with questions.
