Last Day of Classes for 2019-20
Congratulations to all students and faculty as we concluded classes today for the 2019-20 school year. We are grateful for your ongoing partnership with us, and it is through our collective efforts that we successfully transitioned to synchronous learning through Online School for the last two-and-a-half months of the year. We believe we have prepared students for their next level of education.

As we begin the summer break, we continue planning for the 2020-21 school year. The school  year will begin on Monday, August 24, as we have previously communicated. You can rest assured that we will partner with and follow recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Education and Minnesota Department of Health for how to conduct school. We will share additional information with you in the coming weeks as we finalize our plans.

Students to Return School Materials, Collect Locker Belongings

Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 will return school materials and collect their locker belongings during the week of June 8. We will communicate specific details about the exact timing of the exchange next week. In the meantime, we ask students to complete this form to indicate what belongings they have at the school and wish to have packaged for pickup. Students should be prepared to return any textbooks, athletic uniforms, or other school materials they have in their possession.

Students Will Keep iPads During Summer

Students returning to DeLaSalle for the 2020-21 school year will keep their school-issued iPad over the summer. The 2019-20 protection plan will be extended until July 31. Students needing repairs to their device before next school year should contact to arrange for repair. Students not returning to DeLaSalle should turn in their iPad along with any other school materials during the week of June 8.

Student Activities: What’s Allowed During the Summer

The Student Activities office is working closely with school administration and the Minnesota State High School League to establish small group workout procedures and return to play protocol. Because there is a significant amount of planning required to keep everyone safe, we thank you in advance for your patience as we plan accordingly. We will communicate more information to you via email and the Remind App as the planning process develops. You may find here how to sign up for the Remind App.

The optional summer waiver period begins Monday, June 15, which allows coaches to start contacting athletes about coaching and instruction. This will look different than past years, as we will need to account for social distancing and safety measures. The Summer Waiver Period will run through Friday, August 7, with a “No Contact Period” July 3-5. During the No Contact Period, coaches cannot reach out to athletes. No in person contact can take place until coaches get approval from the Activities Office and school administration. The Activities Office and school administration are diligently working to develop plans for in person training plans; look for more information before June 15. Until then (June 1-14) coaches can connect with athletes virtually in regards to team building, leadership, and suggested workouts. Coaches cannot give assessment or evaluation until June 15.

Cafeteria Account Balances

Students who will not return to DeLaSalle in 2020-21 may request a reimbursement or balance transfer of any remaining money on their cafeteria account. Families should indicate their preference using this form. Requests will only be processed if a student does not have any outstanding tuition payments and has turned in all school-issued materials. Cafeteria accounts for all returning students roll over to the next school year.

Interest is Strong; New Students Applying Each Week

Since the calendar turned to May, we have received many new inquiries for potential admission to DeLaSalle and added nine incoming transfers and new ninth graders to the 2020-21 enrollment.  We are grateful for the many referrals you are making to friends, colleagues and extended family, which surface in conversations and interviews with prospective parents and students. Our entire community is strong.  Even as we salute the class of 2020 (and we should), we have also focused on the 2020-21 school year and the graduation ceremonies to come in 2021-22-23-24.  Prospective families are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office as soon as possible to start the inquiry process. We will continue to place new students throughout the summer.

College Advisers Help Juniors with College Planning
College advisers in the DeLaSalle Guidance office can help 11th grade students through their personal college process. There are more questions and unknowns about college during this COVID-19 pandemic. Students and parents are encouraged to reach out at any time with any questions. College advisers are assigned by last name with some exceptions:

Advisers will be available through June 15 before their summer break and then starting again August 10. We hope to hear from you or your student to discuss any questions, concerns, and wonderments.

Around DeLaSalle

DeLaSalle faculty and staff personally delivered diplomas this week to graduates in the Class of 2020. Employees signed up to bring the diploma and other keepsakes to students with whom they have developed relationships as teachers, coaches, and mentors over the past four years. In addition to their diploma, all graduates received a small gift from the Advancement Office and a free t-shirt donated by a DeLaSalle parent.
