2019-20 School Year Ends Next Week
The last day of school for the 2019-20 school year is Friday, May 29.  As this most unique year draws to a close, the entire DeLaSalle community salutes teachers, staff, parents, and especially the students, for their cooperative and inspiring work throughout the pandemic as our school shifted to online and synchronous learning.  Our primary goal from March 13 forward was to work together to ensure each student will be ready academically for the 2020-21 school year at the next level.  A pandemic did NOT have to halt academics.  We are grateful for the partnership that has made that happen.

Students will continue in Online School until the last day, following the same A/B/A/B format we have used since mid-March. You may find the schedule for the last week here. There are no classes May 25 because of Memorial Day. Faculty will choose the final assessment that best fits their class and expectations for the students. This may include a cumulative final exam, or a final paper, project, or presentation.

Please note, returning students will not be required to turn in school-issued iPads at the end of this school year. We will collect non-returning student iPads in June (details to follow later)

Congratulations, DeLaSalle Class of 2020!

DeLaSalle proudly salutes all the members of the Class of 2020, who graduated in a virtual ceremony on Thursday, May 21. In case you missed it, you can watch the graduation ceremony here. Our special thanks to Brother Michael Fehrenbach, Visitor of the Midwest District of Christian Brothers, for offering the Commencement address. Nick Ericksen ‘20 and Sydney Riley ‘20 offered the senior addresses on behalf of their class.

Graduates Honored with Senior Academic, Activity Awards

As we do every year, we take time to honor graduates in the Class of 2020 with academic and activity awards in recognition of their many accomplishments while at DeLaSalle. Graduates were recognized with their individual awards during the virtual graduation ceremony. Continue reading

Faculty, Staff Deliver Diplomas May 27

DeLaSalle faculty and staff will personally deliver diplomas and any awards that Class of 2020 graduates have received during Diploma Distribution on Wednesday, May 27. Diplomas will be delivered to students’ homes using a no-contact method between 5:00-7:00pm. To keep everyone safe, staff will place the diploma/award package in a location designated by the family. This should be an exciting moment for each graduate and his or her family as they receive the prize graduates have worked so hard for these past four years!

Cafeteria Account Balances

Students who will not return to DeLaSalle in 2020-21 may request a reimbursement or balance transfer of any remaining money on their cafeteria account. Families should indicate their preference using this form. Requests will only be processed if a student does not have any outstanding tuition payments and has turned in all school-issued materials. Cafeteria accounts for all returning students roll over to the next school year.

Interest is Strong; New Students Registering Throughout May

Since the calendar turned to May, we have received many new inquiries for potential admission to DeLaSalle and added nine incoming transfers and new ninth graders to the 2020-21 enrollment.  We are grateful for the many referrals you are making to friends, colleagues and extended family, which surface in conversations and interviews with prospective parents and students. Our entire community is strong.  Even as we salute the class of 2020 (and we should), we have also focused on the 2020-21 school year and the graduation ceremonies to come in 2021-22-23-24.  Prospective families are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office as soon as possible to start the inquiry process. We will continue to place new students throughout the summer.

Makeup Mastery Exams Offered for Class of 2024

We continue to welcome the Class of 2024 to DeLaSalle and help orient students and families to their new school. DeLaSalle is offering opportunities on May 28 and May 29 to take a math placement exam that was offered earlier in the month. All registered students in the Class of 2024 are required to take the exam and most did on Saturday, May 2.

DeLaSalle also offers online honors mastery exams for students who wish to test into an advanced level of a science or modern language. Families who would like to take an exam that they missed or retake an exam should contact the Admissions Office as soon as possible.

Class of 2020 Virtual Bingo A Success!

Parent organizers of a virtual bingo night for the Class of 2020 thank all who contributed to last week’s celebration of the newest Islander alumni. Many people generously donated gift certificates and other prizes that will help set the graduates on their next path. The response to support our graduating DeLaSalle seniors was nothing short of amazing!

Around DeLaSalle

On August 18, 2016, students in the Class of 2020 shuffled into the gymnasium for their ninth grade orientation. Principal Jim Benson held up an empty diploma case and encouraged students to “keep their eye on the prize.” This week, students earned that prize when they graduated from DeLaSalle.
