Class of 2024 Virtual Enrollment Orientation on Saturday, May 2
All registered students in the Class of 2024 will take an online math placement exam on Saturday, May 2. This exam had previously been scheduled for Saturday, April 18 as part of our Enrollment Orientation, but we postponed the event because our campus is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Families should check their email for more details, including a schedule of the day and how to log on to the math exam and the parent information sessions. A week later, on Saturday, May 9, DeLaSalle will offer online honors mastery exams for students who wish to test into an advanced level of a science or modern language. Families should look for a separate communication with additional details.
Students Compete Virtually in Minnesota History Day

Forty-six DeLaSalle juniors will compete this weekend in the Minnesota History Day competition, an event that will be held virtually because of the prohibition on large gatherings. The juniors qualified 26 projects for state from the March 9 Metro Regional competition. Students submitted their entries electronically for judging. Minnesota History Day will announce results in a virtual awards ceremony on Sunday, May 3, at 7:00pm on Facebook Live.

Online School – Week of May 4

Online School continues next week with our A/B/A/B schedule format. The “A” day schedule is when classes in periods 1, 2, 3, and 4 meet, while the “B” day schedule is when classes in periods 5, 6, 7, and 8 meet. You can find our May calendar here. Please note there are no classes on Friday, May 8, as faculty participate in professional development to evaluate their current methods and learn of best practices from one another.

Update on Summer Youth Camps

The in-person summer youth camps DeLaSalle had planned for this summer – known as Camp Islander – have been canceled because of prohibitions on large gatherings. The Student Activities office will follow up with families who had registered their child for a camp to process a refund. Activities staff are exploring other ways to provide opportunities for youth virtually and will update you later as we develop plans.

Parents Plan Virtual Senior Party
Each year, a group of DeLaSalle parents have helped plan an all-night party for graduating seniors. This year’s in-person party has been canceled due to the prohibition on large gatherings. Instead, the Class of 2020 graduation party is going virtual! All seniors will be invited to play Virtual BINGO on Friday, May 15, for a chance to win some amazing prizes.

We need your help in celebrating our seniors!  Please consider donating to BINGO prizes!  You may make your donations here through Friday, May 8 (please designate your gift as “Other” and write in “Senior Class Party”).

If you have questions about the event, please contact Laura Bauer or Mary Kate Engel.  The virtual BINGO party is being planned by a group of senior parents and is not a DeLaSalle sponsored event.

Advanced Placement Exams Begin May 11

As we have communicated, the College Board has replaced traditional face-to-face Advanced Placement (AP) exams with 45-minute online free-response exams at home. DeLaSalle administration and AP teachers feel confident that our students will be ready for the tests in their new format and we plan to move forward with all students enrolled in AP courses taking AP tests. There are several steps that students should take now in order to prepare for a successful exam experience. Our Guidance office has prepared this document with helpful tips and resources.
