A Prayer for Students
Lord our God,
in your wisdom and love
you surround us with the mysteries of the universe.
Send your Spirit upon our students
and fill them with your wisdom and blessings.
Grant that they may
devote themselves to their studies
and draw ever closer to you,
the source of all knowledge.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

In an effort to engage our community virtually, the Student Activities Ofice has created the Islander Cup competition – and we invite you to participate!

Look in the Islanders course in Canvas for a daily challenge that will be posted by 8:00am each weekday from April 6-May 1. Islanders have until 11:00pm to complete and submit the challenge. Challenges include Mindfulness Monday, Transformation Tuesday, Workout Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, and Fitness Friday. Students can earn points for completing the challenge and those who submit photos or videos may be featured on the school’s social media channels or in the yearbook. (Parents – not on Canvas yet? Click here for instructions on how to create an account.)

Despite quarantine’s best efforts – LEAP is alive and well. We will be viewing the movie “Two Popes” available on Netflix. If you can, watch the movie before Thursday. We’ll get together and discuss it!

Thursday 2:15pm · movie discussion at https://meet.google.com/rpx-bvdx-rwj

DeLaSalle students and parents are invited to a virtual Navigating College Admission Testing webinar on Wednesday, April 15 at 7:00pm.

Testing expert Adam Ingersoll will help students and families evaluate their test options and share how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted admission testing. The program, sponsored by the Minnesota Association of Independent Schools, is geared toward 10th and 11th grade students, but 9th graders are also welcome to participate.

Are you looking for a way to support your community? Lasallian Ministry is organizing a card writing campaign to provide some cheer for those residents at Catholic Eldercare who are unable to accept visitors because of the coronavirus pandemic. More than 150 residents, including several retired Christian Brothers, live at Catholic Eldercare in northeast Minneapolis. We encourage you to send a card with a thoughtful note, signed with your first name or “your friend from DeLaSalle High School.”

Joseph Rogers, a Lasallian Volunteer and Theology teacher, will collect the cards and deliver them after Easter.

Please mail your card to:

Tech support will be available by emailing studenthelp@delasalle.com or by calling 612.676.7678. When leaving a voicemail, please remember to include your name, a number at which you can be reached, and a brief overview of your question. Additionally, the Islanders Course has a new button on its home page, and we will house tips and reminders that will help you during Online School.

Several different applications will be pushed out to your iPad, including but not limited to: Google Meet, Flipgrid, Ed Puzzle, Genius Scan, and Khan Academy. If there is not enough space on your device, you must delete personal apps/photos and videos to make room for these school apps. Students should not delete any of these apps as you will be using them during DeLaSalle Online School.

The Tech Department will address any student issues as soon as possible, but please be patient as we work to support all students in having a successful online school experience.

Take some time to look at the Guidance Department‘s resources in Canvas. From your Canvas dashboard, click the Islanders course. Then, click Guidance.  Within this area, you will find 5 buttons that will redirect you. *These resources will have ongoing changes and additions.

The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) has suspended participation in all spring activities until May 4. The suspension includes all practices, training, and competitions. Additionally, we are announcing updates to several scheduled school events:

  • The Enrollment Orientation for the Class of 2024 scheduled for Saturday, April 18, has been postponed.  The activities scheduled for that program will still occur with details to be determined.
  • The Junior-Senior Prom scheduled for Saturday, April 25 has been postponed.
  • The Starry Night Prom scheduled for Saturday, May 2 has been canceled.
  • The Advanced Placement (AP) Board has announced that exams will not be held in person as scheduled in May, but they are looking into alternatives for students to still participate. Students who are or have been enrolled in an AP course this year will receive a separate communication with additional information.
  • As of now, Commencement exercises for the Class of 2020 remain scheduled for Thursday, May 21, at the Basilica of Saint Mary. We continue evaluating the feasibility of this event and will share additional updates at a later time.
