Our lives have been anything but normal these past few weeks. Perhaps your Lenten journey was thrown off course by the coronavirus pandemic. Or you are experiencing loneliness or feeling the impact of the pandemic in a tangible way. The Resurrection that we celebrate this Easter is full of hope, life giving, and reminds us that God’s mercy endures forever.
Let us answer the call to be the Risen Christ to each other, sharing that same message of hope and salvation, and the conviction that better times are ahead.
Online School – Week of April 13
Online School continues next week with our A/B/A/B schedule format. The “A” day schedule is when classes in periods 1, 2, 3, and 4 meet, while the “B” day schedule is when classes in periods 5, 6, 7, and 8 meet. You can find a summary of our April calendar here. Please note there is no online school on both Good Friday (April 10) and Easter Monday (April 13). Faculty will participate in professional development April 13 to evaluate their current methods and learn best practices from one another.
Students Complete Online School Survey
DeLaSalle surveyed students this week to assess their Online School experience. The survey asked students to identify if they are having any problems connecting to their online classes and for their candid feedback. Student responses will help guide the professional development that faculty will participate in on Monday, April 13.
Honoring Our Islanders
You may have noticed that several area schools are emulating our Islanders are Everywhere yard signs by making signs for their senior class. We share their sentiment that we LOVE our seniors (and all of our students) and miss seeing them on campus during this time that is the culmination of their four years at DeLaSalle. We are finalizing plans for something special to be sent to the Class of 2020 very soon. Stay tuned!
College Admission Testing Virtual Webinar
DeLaSalle students and parents are invited to a virtual Navigating College Admission Testing webinar on Wednesday, April 15 at 7:00pm. Testing expert Adam Ingersoll will help students and families evaluate their test options and share how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted admission testing. The program, sponsored by the Minnesota Association of Independent Schools, is geared toward 10th and 11th grade students, but 9th graders are also welcome to participate. Click here to learn more and register for the free webinar.
Are you looking for a way to support your community? Lasallian Ministry is organizing a card writing campaign to provide some cheer for those residents at Catholic Eldercare who are unable to accept visitors because of the coronavirus pandemic. More than 150 residents, including several retired Christian Brothers, live at the senior care facilities in northeast Minneapolis. We encourage you to send a card with a thoughtful note, signed with your first name or “your friend from DeLaSalle High School.” Joseph Rogers, a Lasallian Volunteer and Theology teacher, will collect the cards and deliver them after Easter. Please mail your card to:

2020 Virtual Easter Egg Hunt
Thank you for participating in DeLaSalle’s 1st Virtual Easter Egg Hunt. We have hidden 13 eggs around the Islander course in Canvas. Students that successfully complete the hunt will be entered into a drawing for a $5 Caribou gift card. Four winners will be selected. The hunt will start Friday, April 10 at 9am and will continue until Monday, April 13 at 8am.
Supporting DeLaSalle-owned Businesses
One of the strongest aspects of DeLaSalle is the breadth and depth of our community. During this time of uncertainty, we ask you to consider supporting members of our Islander family whose businesses have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether you are doing some online shopping, sending flowers to a loved one, or ordering takeout for dinner, please remember that Islanders are Everywhere! You can find a list of businesses here. If you manage or own a business that you would like highlighted, please let us know.
The Islander Cup competition is underway! Students and staff are eagerly responding to daily challenges posted in the Islanders course in Canvas. Participants can earn points both for completing the challenge and submitting a picture or video.
