The Board of Trustees of DeLaSalle High School is pleased to announce it has unanimously chosen Dr. Bryan E. Bass as the school’s next President. Mr. Barry Lieske, who currently serves as President, will retire at the end of the academic year, after 41 years of service to DeLaSalle. Dr. Bass will begin his tenure on July 1, 2020.

“It’s an honor to be selected to lead DeLaSalle.” Dr. Bass said. “DeLaSalle’s mission emphasizes the importance of a quality education that pursues academic excellence while students learn to navigate our complex world from a set of core values and deep faith. This commitment not only inspires me, it aligns to my own core values and strong belief in the power of education to create access and opportunity for all students. I look forward to collaborating with the DeLaSalle community of stakeholders to continue advancing this mission for years to come.”

As Stephen Engel, Chair of the Board of Trustees commented,”Dr. Bass will provide exceptional leadership to the DeLaSalle community. A highly-experienced educator, he has a demonstrated history of elevating curricula rigor, eliminating achievement disparities, innovating best practices for personalized learning, cultivating community partnerships, and working collaboratively with staff to continually improve the student experience. He’s energetic, a strong communicator, and strategic. Equally important, he has a deep commitment to our Catholic Lasallian identity. We’re delighted that he’s accepted the position.”

Dr. Bass holds a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.), focused on Educational Administration and Leadership, from St. Cloud State University, an Educational Specialist degree from the University of St. Thomas, a Master’s degree from Saint Mary’s University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Saint Olaf College.   He will be coming to DeLaSalle as its President from his current position as Assistant Superintendent of the Edina Public Schools.

Dr. Bass began his career as a social studies instructor at Roosevelt High School and at North Community High School. Subsequently, as Principal, he led both secondary and elementary schools in Brooklyn Center, Woodbury, and St. Paul. In addition, he has taught doctoral students at Concordia University and at St. Mary’s University.

President Barry Lieske shared, “It’s exciting to welcome Dr. Bass to DeLaSalle.  He brings a wealth of educational experience and success to the school we love. I first met Dr. Bass while we were each serving as principals within the TriMetro Conference.  From the start, I have appreciated  his style and student-centered approach to education. We met more recently and in the course of a lengthy conversation, I was struck by his deep commitment to Faith and family.  Clearly, our students will be at the forefront of his efforts, and he will be an asset to the continued growth and advancement of DeLaSalle.”
