Apply for Financial Aid by Monday, February 25

Thank you to the many families who have submitted an application for financial aid for the 2019-20 school year through Tuition Aid Data Services (TADS). If you have not yet started an application, the deadline to apply is Monday, February 25 and you can find more here. With the help of TADS’s financial analysis, DeLaSalle makes all financial aid decisions and includes all known financial aid grants and Presidential Scholarships, as applicable, on a family’s tuition agreement.

TADS will process all financial aid applications, using filed 2018 federal tax returns. TADS accepts, as they always have, copies of documents which families file. You may always contact the TADS Helpline at 1-800-884-8237.

Click here to learn more about financial aid, including how to find how much you paid in tuition to DeLaSalle in 2018, which may be important as you prepare your tax return for the year.

DeLaSalle Families Qualify for K-12 Education Tax Subtraction and Credit

As you prepare your 2018 Minnesota income tax return, please make note of Minnesota’s K-12 Education Subtraction and Credit, which can lower the tax you must pay and may even provide a larger refund. You may read more about the two programs through this Minnesota Department of Revenue fact sheet.

Returning families to DeLaSalle who need to know how much tuition they paid to DeLaSalle in tuition and registration in 2018 can access the information in TADS. Follow these step-by-step instructions to access the report. This report will also retrieve information about tuition paid to DeLaSalle in calendar year 2018 for families whose children attended De during the year.

  1. Log into TADS
  2. Click on the “Billing” tab
  3. Select “Your Billing Account”
  4. Once you are in Billing you will see “Reports” in the blue bar. Click on “Reports”
  5. Select “Household Paid Tuition Tax Report”
  6. Enter the year “2018”
  7. The report will appear
DeLaSalle Reschedules Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences, Adjusts School Calendar

As you know, this has been a challenging winter with extreme cold and snow impacting the school calendar. These impacts – and the potential for additional schedule disruptions should our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams reach the state tournament in March – have led DeLaSalle to announce the following changes to the 2018-19 school calendar:

  • The spring Parent-Student-Teacher conferences that were originally scheduled for Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15 have been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 20, from 1:00-8:00pm. DeLaSalle will now hold a full day of classes on March 14 and 15.
  • Should the girls’ basketball team advance (currently ranked 7th in Class 3A), their state tournament is March 13, 14, and 16. Should the boys’ basketball team advance (currently ranked 1st in Class 3A), their state tournament is March 20, 21, and 23. Any potential changes to the school calendar are determined by seeding for the tournaments and would be communicated at a later date.
  • Monday, April 8, which immediately follows spring break and had originally been scheduled as a day for staff professional development, will now be a full day of classes.

DeLaSalle Advances 34 Projects to Regional History Day Competition

Congratulations to the 65 DeLaSalle students who, as individuals or groups, advanced 34 History Day projects to the regional competition March 18 at Augsburg College. Students presented their projects at an open house this week. History Day is an annual project in the 11th grade Social Studies curriculum that lets juniors become expert historians by researching a topic of their choice around a national theme, which this year is “Triumph and Tragedy in History.” Continue reading

DeLaSalle Admits Class of 2023

DeLaSalle has extended offers of admission to 281 prospective students in the Class of 2023 from a current pool of over 384 applicants. Please join us in welcoming these newest Islanders to our community. Students and families to whom DeLaSalle is offering admission will receive a special video greeting February 22, sharing the exciting news. The same students and families will receive a registration packet in the mail that includes the formal admission offer letter and important registration documents. Admitted students are invited to Ninth Grade Registration Day on Saturday, March 2, from 9:00am-12:00pm, and it is likely that we will meet our goal of 175-200 ninth graders on that day. Students in the Class of 2023 and their families will meet teachers and staff, register for classes, express interest in school activities, and request transportation for the 2019-20 school year. The School Store will be open and DeLaSalle staff will be available to answer questions. We will continue to accept applications for potential ninth grade and transfer students throughout the spring and summer – and register students as space permits.

Students with lockers in the B building should gather all belongings immediately after school as they will not be able to enter the building or access their locker during the speech tournament. Thank you.

Arizona Luncheon

Friday, March 1

Islanders are everywhere – and as you know, the DeLaSalle community extends well beyond the shorelines of Nicollet Island. Each year, DeLaSalle President Barry Lieske and Advancement staff meet with alumni and friends in Arizona and Florida, many of whom are generous donors to the school, to share the many good things happening on the Island. These same donors host our luncheons. Our Arizona luncheon is Thursday, March 1 at 11:30am at Vivace Restaurant in Tucson. Less than two weeks later, we will meet with Florida alumni and friends on Wednesday, March 13 at 11:30am at The Club at Barefoot Beach in Naples. If you or other Islanders will be in the area, please join us. Contact Veronica Rucker for more information.

Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, March 6

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the period of 40 days leading to Christ’s death on Good Friday and Resurrection on Easter Sunday. The school community will gather for Mass immediately following first period. DeLaSalle observes Lent in part by abstaining from meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays throughout Lent. Meatless options are served in the DeLaSalle Cafe on these days.

Tenth Grade Science Museum Field Trip

Friday, March 8

Tenth graders will take a field trip to the Science Museum of Minnesota to explore the “RACE: Are We So Different?”exhibit. Students will also have the opportunity to watch a play and participate in a question-and-answer session with actors that is only available on Thursdays and Fridays.

Around DeLaSalle

Tenth grade students participated in their annual class retreat February 22, spending part of the day packing meals at Feed My Starving Children. Students participate each year in a class retreat, which is organized by Lasallian MInistry and designed to build class unity, deepen connections with classmates, and focus on a particular theme – which for sophomores is service. DeLaSalle Basketball Teams Earn Tri-Metro Conference Titles

Congratulations to the DeLaSalle boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams, who each earned their respective Tri-Metro Conference title. DeLaSalle will host a full day of basketball games against Minnehaha Academy on Saturday, February 23. The Islander boys’ (ranked #1 in Class AAA) and girls’ (ranked #7 in Class AAA) will face Class AA top-ten ranked Minnehaha teams; find the game schedule here. Arrive early if you want to see the varsity games in person; we will close the doors if we reach capacity, which may likely occur given the high level of interest among Twin Cities high school basketball fans. If the main school parking lot is full, additional pay parking is available at the Nicollet Island Pavilion. Go Islanders!

Camp Islander Accepting Registrations
