Students Can Request 2019-20 Courses

DeLaSalle students may begin requesting 2019-20 courses today (February 8). Students will receive a link to submit their course requests in their Student Islander Apps email. All course requests must be submitted by Monday, February 18.

The course request process is the latest step in our continuous enrollment for the 2019-20 school year. Implemented by the DeLaSalle Board of Trustees two years ago, continuous enrollment streamlines the re-enrollment process and eliminates the need for sending a repetitive re-registration form and a new tuition agreement to families each year.  With almost all students re-enrolling at DeLaSalle year over year, the process of completing multiple forms ends up being unnecessary. A timeline of key dates follows – you can find more information on the 2019-20 registration webpage.

  • February 7: Students in grades 9-10-11 received a course request worksheet that will help them plan which required and elective courses they may take in 2019-20. Course registration will be online and will open to students and families on February 8. Course requests are due no later than Monday, February 18.
  • February 13: Students will meet with their academic mentors to review course selections.
  • February 25: The TADS financial aid application for 2019-20 is due by this date.
  • By February 25: The 2019-20 non-refundable registration deposit of $350.00 per student will be added to your TADS tuition accounts for March billing. Monthly payers will have this deposit added on your normal tuition payment date.  For families who have paid tuition in one or two installments, we will add an additional invoice to their agreement and TADS will process the registration deposit from their account.
  • April 1-15: Once TADS has completed their auditing procedures, DeLaSalle will be communicating 2019-20 financial aid and individualized tuition arrangements for each returning family.
  • May: Tuition payments begin for 2019-20, in 12 monthly payments or one or two installments.
DeLaSalle Dedicates New Mural, Celebrates Fine Arts February 12

If you have walked into the “A” building in the last month, you likely have noticed a new mural on the wall. The unnamed work is the product of DeLaSalle Hall of Famer and designer of worldwide acclaim, Joe Duffy ‘67. Duffy collaborated with current visual arts students to design and paint a mural that reflects significant images in the history of the school, Nicollet Island, and the City of Minneapolis. DeLaSalle will formally dedicate and bless the mural, and also celebrate the thriving fine arts programs at De, during a school assembly on Tuesday, February 12, at 9:00am, in the Main Gymnasium. Duffy is invited to speak at the ceremony. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has also been invited to attend and speak.

Parents Invited to Presentation on “Adolescent Behavior: Social Media and Technology’ on February 11

DeLaSalle parents are invited to join the monthly Parent Association meeting on Monday, February 11 to hear from Dr. Jules Nolan, a licensed psychologist and the president-elect of the state association of school psychologists.  Dr. Nolan will share insights on “Adolescent Behavior: Social Media and Technology.” The meeting begins at 6:30pm in the Schulze Lab (D104), and all DeLaSalle parents are invited to attend the presentation. Students Will Meet with Academic Mentors February 13

Students will meet with their academic mentor to review their second semester progress. Mentors will also check in with 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students about course requests for the 2019-20 school year.

‘Early Decision’ Application Deadline February 15; Final Makeup Entrance Exam Tomorrow

As of February 5, over 360 eighth grade students have submitted application materials to DeLaSalle. The “early decision” application deadline is Friday, February 15. Each day, the De admissions office is hearing from new applicants and receiving dozens of recommendations and transcripts on behalf of students who have already applied and/or taken an Entrance Exam.

With the February 15 application deadline on the horizon, DeLaSalle announces one final opportunity for eighth grade students to take a make-up Entrance Exam.

  • (NEWLY ADDED) Saturday, February 9 – 9:00am to Noon

The make-up exam will be offered in the Admission Office in Christian Brothers Hall, the building which faces Grove Street on the north (or back) side of the campus.  Please pre-register for the make-up exam by calling Mike O’Keefe at 612-676-7679 or Lourdes Bunay at 612-676-7665. DeLaSalle charges no fee for the exam and provides all test materials, including pencils.

2019-20 Financial Aid Application Deadline Approaches

DeLaSalle families may now apply for financial aid for the 2019-20 school year through Tuition Aid Data Services (TADS). To receive full consideration for many of the scholarship programs, families of new students are encouraged to apply by Friday, February 15 and all families have until Monday, February 25 to apply. With the help of TADS’s financial analysis, DeLaSalle makes all financial aid decisions and includes all known financial aid grants and Presidential Scholarships, as applicable, on a family’s tuition agreement.

TADS will process all financial aid applications, using filed 2018 federal tax returns. If the federal government were to shut down again, TADS accepts, as they always have, copies of documents which families file. You may always contact the TADS Helpline at 1-800-884-8237.

History Day at DeLaSalle

Tuesday, February 19, 6:00-8:00pm

DeLaSalle invites you to an open house to see the hard work that eleventh grade students have invested for months on their History Day projects. History Day is an annual project in the 11th grade Social Studies curriculum that gives juniors an opportunity to become expert historians, selecting and researching a topic of their choice around a national theme, which this year is “Triumph and Tragedy in History.” Students produce exhibits, dramatizations, websites, documentaries, and research papers. Last year, DeLaSalle qualified four projects to compete at National History Day. Muriel Ambrus ‘19 and Sophia Marret ‘19 won ninth place in the nation for their senior group exhibit on the Central Park Five.

Social Justice Awareness Week

February 25-March 1

Social Justice Week is an annual program of the Office of Lasallian Ministry, which focuses on specific social teachings of the Catholic Church. This year, the theme of the week is “Immigration: Seeing God in Every Person.” Students will have an opportunity to explore the topic through an all-school assembly with a keynote speaker, a prayer service, as well as lunch and class activities.

Out of Uniform Day

Wednesday, February 27

Students may purchase a wristband for the privilege to dress out of uniform. Wristbands will be sold during lunches before the out of uniform day and before school that morning. Students must follow the out of uniform guidelines in the Student-Parent Handbook.

DeLaSalle shares a portion of out of uniform wristband sales proceeds with Mwangaza College, our twin school in Kenya.

Class of 2023 Registration

Saturday, March 2, 9:00am-12:00pm

Students who are admitted into the DeLaSalle Class of 2023 will secure their enrollment for 2019-20 at the Ninth Grade Registration Day. Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, March 6

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the period of 40 days leading to Christ’s death on Good Friday and Resurrection on Easter Sunday. The school community will gather for Mass immediately following first period. DeLaSalle observes Lent in part by abstaining from meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays throughout Lent. Meatless options are served in the DeLaSalle Cafe on these days.
