In today’s news…

Thank you for helping to share the good news about DeLaSalle with your family and friends this Christmas season. What an exciting time for De! We invite prospective students and their families to join us at our winter Open House to learn more about DeLaSalle’s mission and vision and hear from teachers in each department about our college preparatory curriculum. You can also learn about our Catholic, Lasallian heritage, student activities, financial aid, and more.

On Wednesday, January 16, DeLaSalle hosts its first Open House for prospective students and their parents.  Many current students first visited De at an Open House in previous years.  Because we will need to set up for the Open House and clean the entire campus earlier in the afternoon, we ask that all students not involved in work service or a previously scheduled, after school activity please leave campus immediately after school on Wednesday.  The Library, D-104, and the entire B building will be closed at 3:15 p.m on Wednesday. Thank you for understanding this request and making plans now to go home immediately after school on the 16th.

DeLaSalle will hold an online learning day on Thursday, January 17 for students as faculty and staff also participate in professional development. Students will not report to school for classes, but will complete their assignments and coursework online. Faculty will publish their class assignments by 9:00am and will be available at times throughout the day to remotely work with students.

Juniors who plan to take the April 13 ACT exam may now register for a prep class that will help prepare them for the test. Classes are Mondays, starting February 25. The 3:15-5:15pm class time has filled but space is still available in the 5:30-7:30pm class. The class costs $225; students who qualify for free and reduced lunch will pay $50. Click here for more information. You may click here to register. Please contact Mary Ann Dorsher with questions.

Please look over this form for two scholarships that we would like students to be aware of. The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation and the Wallin Education Partners have partnered with DeLaSalle to provide opportunities to help students finance their college education.

After TTGC last Thursday, Mr. Banas, playing The King (legally distinct from King Kong) is DLS’ King of Tokyo.

This week, during all lunch periods, sign-up forms for 2nd Semester MACRS will be circulating. Please make sure to write your name on a form, if you wish to play during the second half of the season. We will be reading Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.

Are you interested in learning to play chess? Are you interested in improving your chess playing skills? Are you an accomplished chess player looking for good competition? Players of all levels are encouraged to stop by the Chess Club drop-in sessions every Tuesday from 3:00-4:15 in Room A208. See Ms. Kocourek, if you have any questions.

Applications are now available for driver’s education classes, which will be offered in April, June, and late July/early August. Classes are limited to the first 25 students who register with a $200 down payment. Click here for class dates and applications.

Welcome back Islanders! Start your semester off on the right foot by joining the Christian Brothers community for morning prayer on Monday’s at 7:45am. The chapel, located in Christian Brothers Hall by the Lasallian Ministry office, is open to students and staff during the school day for quiet prayer and meditation.

Lasallian Ministry is taking a group of students to the March for Life on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the state capital in Saint Paul. Students who are interested should sign up here and complete an anticipated absence form for periods 3-8 no later than Thursday, January 17 and return it to either Mr. Rogers or Ms. Stecklein in Lasallian Ministry. We will be leaving from DeLaSalle after the Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Service at 11:00AM and will be returning by the end of the school day. We will participate in the march in front of the capitol and then visit for prayer and a tour at Saint Paul Cathedral.
