Merry Christmas from DeLaSalle

Merry Christmas from the DeLaSalle family to you and yours!  We are entirely grateful for the enduring gift of God made present among us!  For the perspective and assurance that Holiness was indeed made human and accessible in the simplest of ways — a baby, a manger, and a glorious story told and re-told millions of times from generation to generation. Thank you from DeLaSalle for all you have meant to us in 2018.  May God bless you as you celebrate this Christmas season and make God all the more present in the New Year! Watch our Christmas video message here.

Christmas Break December 24-January 4

There are no classes at DeLaSalle December 24-January 4 as we observe Christmas break. The school will be open weekdays from 8:00am-4:00pm, except on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Please note that many staff choose to take time off during the break. You may find how to individually contact a staff member through our online staff directory.

Where Do Students Find Their Second Semester Class Schedule?

The second semester begins when classes resume on Monday, January 7 at 8:30am. DeLaSalle sent second semester schedules to students via their Islander Apps email on December 21 at 11:00am and will email a reminder again before the start of the second semester.

DeLaSalle Announces Key 2019-20 School Year Dates

We often receive several questions this time of year regarding key dates for the next school year – such as “When will school start?” or “When is spring break?” While the 2019-20 school year calendar is not yet final, we can confirm the following key dates have been scheduled:

  • First day of classes for all students: Monday, August 26, 2019
  • PSAT: Wednesday, October 16
  • Fall Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences: October 16-17
  • Christmas Break: December 23, 2019-January 3, 2020
  • Spring Break: April 6-14
  • Graduation for the Class of 2020: Thursday, May 21
  • Last day of school: Friday, May 29
Islanders Eligible for College Horizons Program

Bozhoo and Háu to DeLaSalle families! Sophomores and juniors who are Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian are invited to participate in College Horizons, an annual pre-college summer program that inspires students to find a college that will satisfy their needs for a fun, challenging and supportive environment. Students work with college admissions officers, college counselors, essay specialists, and other educators in a six-day college admissions “crash course” focused on understanding the college admissions application process. Learn more when Hilary Abe from College Horizons visits DeLaSalle on Wednesday, January 9 for an evening information meeting. Please click here for more information and to register. Contact Stacey Carter at 612.676.7619 with questions.

Young Alumni Offer College Perspective at Parent Association Meeting

Monday, January 7, 6:30-8:00pm, Schulze Lab (D104)

The January meeting of the DeLaSalle Parent Association is a perennial favorite, when young Islander alumni join us for a special type of college planning panel for parents.  We host our always informative panel discussion from the first-year student’s perspective. All parents are invited to join us and hear what De alums from the Class of 2018 would say helped with their college planning, decision and transition — and maybe a couple of things they wish they had known or done differently.  Practical and understandable advice from one Islander to another is always helpful.  Students are certainly welcome too.

Open House for Prospective Students and Families

Wednesday, January 16, 7:00-9:00pm

Thank you for helping to share the good news about DeLaSalle with your family and friends this Christmas season. What an exciting time for De! We invite prospective students and their families to join us at our winter Open House to learn more about DeLaSalle’s mission and vision and hear from teachers in each department about our college preparatory curriculum. You can also learn about our Catholic, Lasallian heritage, student activities, financial aid, and more.

Online Learning Day / Professional Development

Thursday, January 17

DeLaSalle will hold an online learning day for students as faculty and staff also participate in professional development. Students will not report to school for classes, but will complete their assignments and coursework online. Faculty will publish their class assignments by 9:00am and will be available at times throughout the day to remotely work with students.

Entrance Exam and Parent Information Seminar

Saturday, January 19, 8:30am

We invite prospective students to take the Entrance Exam, one of the requirements for admission at DeLaSalle. Families do NOT need to preregister for the exam. We charge no fee for the exam and we will provide all test materials, including pencils. While students are taking the Entrance Exam, we invite parents to stay for a Parent Information Seminar in DeLaSalle’s Florance Center, where we will cover information about the application and registration process, financial aid, transportation, student life, uniforms, and more. Finally, while we will accept application materials on or before January 19, families still have until February 15 to complete an application to DeLaSalle.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday

Monday, January 21

DeLaSalle will be closed and there are no classes in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday.

MLK Prayer Service

Tuesday, January 22

DeLaSalle will celebrate the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an all-school prayer service.

Around DeLaSalle

Every Christmas, for the past several years, DeLaSalle President Barry Lieske and his wife, Barb, create a handmade Christmas ornament or figurine for each staff member that represents the school’s current Scripture theme. This year’s ornament, which is a polar bear inscribed with the theme from Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous for God will be with you,” is pictured in the background behind past years’ ornaments.
