Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.

Lord God, may we your people, who look forward to the birthday of Christ experience the joy of salvation while we await in hope the dawning of your coming day. Let us be Your Light in the World through our actions and words. We pray this in Your Name. Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle…pray for us.

Live Jesus in our hearts…forever!

On today’s calendar…

All college visits take place in the Guidance office B102, unless otherwise noted. In order to meet with a college rep, you must register for the visit through your Naviance account and notify your teacher at least one day before the visit. You may show your teacher your iPad with the registration on Naviance as your pass. Remember, you are responsible for any work you miss during your visit with the college rep. The Guidance office will give students passes back to class if the visit does not take the whole period.

In today’s news…

DeLaSalle students will be able to purchase a permit to park their vehicle in the Nicollet Island Pavilion overflow lot during the school day through a partnership with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, which owns and manages the lot. Students interested in buying the permit must attend an informational meeting during their lunch hour on Wednesday to learn more about this pilot program. The meeting will be held in D207 (the creative side of the Thies Lab). The permit will cost $125 and is valid for the remainder of the school year. Permit sales will begin following the lunchtime informational meetings.

Students preparing for the Winter Musical invite you to join them for Christmas caroling at Catholic Elder Care. Join the cast of the Winter Play today, from 3:15-4:45pm. Bus will depart from the Lasallian Ministry office. Sign up here.

We cordially invite you to attend the Christmas Concert as students in the Bel Canto and A Cappella Choirs, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band perform during one of DeLaSalle’s most popular events. Doors to the Florance Center will open at 6:30pm.

We know that the Christmas concert is a hit with families. As we anticipate a large turnout for this year’s concert, additional free parking is available in the Nicollet Island Pavilion overflow parking lot, located just south of the Hennepin Avenue bridge. There will be no charge to park in the lot that evening and a DeLaSalle Event Parking sign will indicate the entry to the lot. A free shuttle will transport guests between the parking lot and the school.

DeLaSalle will again broadcast a livestream of the event, which will be available here.

Thank you for your AMAZING contribution to the Christmas Basket Project! Together we raised over $5,000 to support families in need. Thanks to you, we supported 10 families (including 26 kids) through Sponsor a Family MN and the YMCA Youth Intervention Services and made contributions to Sharing and Caring Hands and The Aliveness Project.

A special shout out to Br. Ryan and Ms. Westphal’s classes who raised $2,000 each and to those students who helped shop for the gifts.

Great job DeLaSalle!

Mr. Homan (Teacher-A210) and Miles Camery (Artistic Director) are creating a creative writing “zine.” A zine is a low-budget, do-it-yourself type of publication perfect for creative writing.

We are seeking poems, short stories, creative essays, drawings, etc. Submission due date: December 19th

Here’s an example of one poem that has already been submitted:

the world turns
every blink,
don’t blink
stop time
get lost and find love
explore what you do not know
dissect what you do
intertwine while
tearing back the layers

Thank you to those who brought a photograph of their loved ones from home to contribute to our Ofrenda table. If you have not picked up your photo yet, please see Mr. Rogers in the Learning Center (D-105). Thank you!

Winter Break is the perfect time for students to start planning their summer jobs and earn a Lifeguard Certification! The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Lifeguards starting wage is $11.25/hr and everyone will receive a pay increase on June 1st . In an effort to overcome the price barrier of the certification course, we have a course reimbursement process as well as a scholarship opportunity.

Our lifeguard course scholarship reduces the cost to $5 for applicants exhibiting financial need. This scholarship application goes into more detail. Students interested in applying for the Lifeguard Scholarship can send their application to or mail them to MPRB Headquarters

Additionally, if a Lifeguard works an average of 32 hours per week with us over the course of the summer we will reimburse the cost of their certification class in their last paycheck of the summer. If interested or have any questions, please see Mr. C.J. Hallman.
