The DeLaSalle community has shown its generosity in the last month, directly supporting the latest generation of Islanders.  By virtue of alumni, parent and friend support of the October 13 Christian Brothers’ Gala and the third-annual “De Day of Giving” on November 1, DeLaSalle has raised more than $520,000 toward its budgeted commitments in financial assistance and school operations for 2018-19.

“The generosity of DeLaSalle’s supporters never fails to inspire us!” said president Barry Lieske.  “Over the course of 19 days, our benefactors offered a remarkable lesson in gratitude and kindness for our students.  It’s immensely gratifying that so many believe in our work and truly care about the students’ access to DeLaSalle and then their success once they are here.”

The annual Christian Brothers Gala, held on October 13, has truly become a community fundraiser.   Parents, students, alumni and friends all stepped forward and gave generously of their time, talent, and treasure.  More than 125 adult and student volunteers stepped up to set up and manage the event, under the direction of Gala coordinator, Brenda Irvin, and the DeLaSalle Advancement Office staff.    The ambiance was spectacular for the 370 attendees.

With particular gratitude, we thank Tom ’54 and Sandra Glodek and Larry ’54 and Jean LeJeune, each for their generous matching challenge donation toward the Gala’s “Bids for Kids.”  Once again we exceeded the challenge match and raised gross revenues of $405,000 in the “Bids for Kids”, live and silent auctions, ticket sales, and more.

For the third year in a row, DeLaSalle held its own “De Day of Giving” on November 1, under the direction of Director of Annual Giving, Liz Hewitt, and the work of the Advancement Office staff.  The Islander community again rallied to support the school, raising $115,000, exceeding the single-day fundraising goal.  The DeLaSalle Advancement Office continues to process checks and other donations that were sent directly to the school in support of the initiative.

The “De Day of Giving” also gave DeLaSalle the opportunity to grow the number of donors to DeLaSalle Several challenges were laid out by Hewitt and the Advancement Staff, and our supporters stepped up to meet every challenge:

  • $115,000 was raised for our students, teachers, and mission.
  • 483 total donors
  • 120 parent donors
  • 46 alumni classes represented
  • 171 student donors

  • GOAL REACHED for the $10,000 Board of Trustees challenge
  • GOAL REACHED for the $5,000 parent challenge
  • GOAL REACHED for the student participation challenge
  • and the winner of the $2,000 Alumni challenge is THE CLASS OF 1967!

Monies raised from the Gala and the “De Day of Giving” help the school meet its fundraising goals for fiscal year 2018-19, balance the operating budget yet again, and fund the $3.2 million allocated in financial aid grants and merit scholarships for this school year.  And the great news is that, outside of these one-time events, we continue to receive support from donors who are making annual or recurring monthly gifts to De.  Four months into the fiscal year, we are well on our way toward meeting or exceeding our development revenue goals for 2018-19. THANK YOU!

If you did not have the chance to participate in the Christian Brothers’ Gala or the “De Day of Giving,” we would love for you to join the momentum and help us support DeLaSalle. Our students and our community are grateful for your support.
