Continue College Planning at Notre Dame Citywide Meeting, National College Fair

DeLaSalle students and families can continue their college planning during several upcoming events as part of “October Madness.”

As they have for several years, the University of Notre Dame will hold a citywide information meeting at DeLaSalle on Wednesday, October 17, from 6:00-9:30pm in D104. Matthew Greene, an admissions representative for the Minneapolis area, will present and hold a question-and-answer session. We encourage you to attend to better understand how the admission process works at Notre Dame or other highly selective schools.

All juniors will attend the National College Fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center the morning of Thursday, October 25. DeLaSalle will provide transportation to and from the event for students. The fair is also open for families who wish to attend on Wednesday, October 24 from 9:00am-12:00pm and from 5:00-8:00pm.

Finally, students and families are invited to meet with representatives from Jesuit colleges as part of the Jesuit Excellence Tour. Representatives will be at De on Thursday, October 25, from 6:00-7:00pm, in D104.

DeLaSalle Evaluates Master Schedule

As part of its ongoing strategic planning process, DeLaSalle has begun evaluating whether the current eight-period master schedule continues to best serve students’ learning. An advisory committee of faculty and staff, facilitated by Principal Jim Benson, will study the issue – reviewing other schools’ models as well as gathering and analyzing data from a variety of stakeholders. The committee may recommend possible changes to school president, Barry Lieske, if it feels that a different way of scheduling classes would better align with one of the school’s strategic priorities – to provide a rigorous and relational educational experience. Any changes would likely not take effect until the 2020-21 school year. Students will have an opportunity to offer qualitative feedback following their first hour class on Monday, October 15. Please watch here for further updates about how parents can share their input into this process.

Seniors Gather October 15 for Graduation Meeting

DeLaSalle and Jostens will share important information about graduation with all seniors on Monday, October 15. Students will submit their cap and gown size and how they want their name pronounced at graduation. A Jostens representative will also present about graduation memorabilia, including graduation announcements and party invitations.

Soccer Teams, Coaches Recognized as Fall Sports Playoffs Continue

Section playoffs for fall sports teams begin at different times throughout October. Several teams are still completing their regular season schedules. But, as their section playoffs begin, we recognize the boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer teams for their stellar play throughout the year.

The girls’ soccer team captured the Tri-Metro Conference championship with an undefeated 8-0 record in league play, including road victories at top-ten ranked Visitation and at Holy Angels.  The team had dropped their first four games of the year (three against top ten ranked teams) when several starters were out with injuries or playing out of their normal positions because of those injuries.  Once everyone regained their health, the Islanders went 9-1-2 over the final twelve games of the year, including the undefeated run in conference play. They finished the season just outside the top ten, with the eleventh most votes in the statewide Class A rankings at year’s end

The boys’ soccer team finished the regular season with an 11-2-1 record and a second-place finish in the Tri Metro Conference.  The Islanders closed the year by winning ten of their last 11 games and are ranked #9 in the state rankings as section play begins. The top four seeds in Section 5A are all ranked among the top ten in the state.

And, we just learned this week about top honors for two DeLaSalle soccer coaches. Varsity boys’ soccer head coach, Adam Pribyl ‘06, was named the Section 5A boys’ soccer coach of the year. And girls’ soccer assistant coach, Kai Brinson ‘09, was named the Section 5A girls’ soccer assistant coach of the year.

Not all teams have begun section playoffs yet. You can find brackets and complete playoff information on our Fall Sports Playoffs page.
