There’s still time to join the fun and support the school that you love! The 2018 Christian Brothers Gala is on Saturday, October 13, and the event promises to be a TON of fun and all for a great cause, the students of DeLaSalle! There is still time for your to join us at our only all-school fundraiser of the year. Last year, over 400 attendees and more than 150 parent and student volunteers had a wonderful time with old friends, new friends, live and silent auctions, dinner and refreshments, and marvelous entertainment from the DeLaSalle Orchestra and other performers.
The Gala raises more than $350,000 to directly support De students. As most know, DeLaSalle opened 119 years ago to meet the educational needs of poor and working class families, predominantly immigrants who were moving into Minneapolis in growing numbers. Started in 1991 (at that time in the spring and called the DeLaSalle Gala), the event connects students, parents, staff, alumni and friends in a way that no other event draws the entire DeLaSalle community together.
Renamed the Christian Brothers Gala in 1999, in honor of the Christian Brothers who opened DeLaSalle and remain present on campus today, the event helps sustain an educational mission that has stood the test of time. Opening the school in 1900, Christian Brothers have guided DeLaSalle students for more than a century in their academic studies and the development of their relationship with Jesus Christ. Currently, a community of Brothers still serves DeLaSalle in a variety of roles in the school and lives in residence on the upper floors of Christian Brothers Hall on the Grove Street side of the property.
Today the network of Christian Brothers schools are better known as “Lasallian.” The Lasallian network has considerably increased throughout the world. Today we are 80,000 educators and more than 5,000 Brothers, and together we animate the Lasallian mission which reaches more than one million children, young people, and adults in schools in over 80 countries.
Supporting the Christian Brothers Gala not only has a practical benefit of supporting current students, but it also honors the remarkable legacy of all Brothers and Lasallians who, wherever they are working, put their whole heart into the option for the poor. At its core, Lasallian educators attempt, through their educational action, to build a world with greater opportunity, access, solidarity and justice.
