Guidance Office Hosts Early College Awareness Night September 17 for 9th, 10th Grade Families

Parents of 9th and 10th grade students are invited to learn simple steps for you and your students’ college journey at our Early College Awareness night on Monday, September 17. The information session is scheduled from 6:30-8:00pm in D117. Learn how and why it is never too early to seek college scholarships. Discover NAVIANCE, the online college planning tool used by DeLaSalle students.

Counselors Help Prepare Students for All School Test Day

All ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students will take standardized tests on Wednesday, October 10. In preparation for All School Test Day, counselors from the Guidance office will meet with students in English and Social Studies classes to share more information. Shauna Stipkovits will be in classes September 19, 20, and October 3 to discuss the Iowa Test of Educational Development that 9th graders will take. Stacey Carter will be in classes the week of October 1-5 to discuss the PLAN (preliminary ACT) with 10th graders. And Beth Braun will be in classes September 25 and 27 to discuss the PSAT (preliminary SAT) with 11th graders. Seniors are excused from classes October 10 and are strongly encouraged to use the time to visit colleges.

Families May Request Transportation Reimbursement

Some, though not all, school districts provide DeLaSalle families an opportunity to request transportation assistance for eligible students who are legal residents of that school district. The primary contact in each household received an email this week with a link to complete a form requesting reimbursement, known as Form 1000. De families requesting reimbursement must click on the link and complete the form before October 6. All families who live outside the MInneapolis city limits and receive transportation through DeLaSalle must complete and submit the form as part of their transportation contract agreement.

Homecoming Week September 24-29

DeLaSalle students, parents, alumni and friends are invited to celebrate Homecoming September 24-29. Students are allowed to dress out of uniform throughout the week, following the theme of the day. Student Council has planned an afternoon and evening full of activities after school on Friday, September 28. Following the Homecoming Pepfest at the end of the school day, which this year will include the Coronation ceremony, students can participate in DeLaPalooza, an event featuring games, a dunk tank, bounce house, food and more. The powderpuff football game between the junior and senior girls will be played at 5:30pm and a movie on the athletic field and bonfire on Brothers’ Plaza will cap the night. The festivities continue Saturday, September 29, with the Homecoming dance at 7:30pm. Continue reading

Students Should Not Update to iOS 12

Apple will release a software update for the iPad called iOS 12. Students should NOT update their iPad with the new operating system until DeLaSalle’s technology team has tested school apps for iOS 12 compatibility and functionality in the school environment so we can transition smoothly to the new software. Students should ignore any iOS 12 software update notifications or prompts that appear on their iPad until further notice from DeLaSalle. Students who update to iOS 12 before given permission will have restrictions placed on their device and all personal apps will be deleted for the remainder of the semester.

Grade 10 Class Mass and Level Meeting

Tuesday, September 18

In addition to all-school liturgies, students in each grade will continue to gather as a class this fall to celebrate Mass. School chaplain, Fr. Bruno Nwachukwu, will celebrate each Mass at nearby Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Class Masses occur for 10th grade on September 18 and for 9th grade on October 2. Students should report to their first hour class and then will dismiss to the Florance Center for a grade level meeting before departing for Mass.

Picture Retake Day

Tuesday, September 25

Lifetouch photographers will be back on campus for students who wish to have their school photo retaken or who were absent on the first School Picture Day August 23. Because students may dress out of uniform on September 25 because of Homecoming, students are reminded to bring a school uniform shirt for the picture

Senior Portraits Sitting at No Charge

Wednesday, September 26, lunch periods, Thies Lab

Photographers from David Bank Studios will be on campus to take senior portraits for free. All seniors must have a senior picture taken by David Bank Studios to be included in the 2018-19 yearbook and the class composite picture that hangs in the hallways of DeLaSalle. Students should bring a top to change into if they do not wish to wear their Out of Uniform top for the picture. Students who do not get their senior picture taken September 26 must get a senior picture taken at the studio by October 31. Please contact the Yearbook staff with questions.

De Parents in Prayer

Friday, September 28

The Parent Association once again will sponsor De “Parents in Prayer,” a group of DeLaSalle parents and family members who will gather on campus once a month to lift up our community in prayer. We hope students, staff, families and friends at DeLaSalle will feel encouraged by the knowledge that people care about them, are excited for them and are PRAYING FOR THEM! All parents, family members, friends, and alumni are welcome to participate.

11th Grade Retreat

Friday, October 5

Every year, students in each grade participate in an all-day class retreat as part of their DeLaSalle education. These retreats, which are organized through Lasallian Ministry, help build class unity and allow students to deepen their faith and knowledge of their place in the world. The 11th grade retreat helps students reflect on the themes of servant leadership, responsibility, and spirituality in a diverse world.

DeLaSalle Theatre Presents “The World’s Greatest Detective”

October 5, 6, 11, 12, 7:30pm, Florance Center; Tickets – Reserved $15; general $10; seniors $8; De students free with school ID

DeLaSalle Theatre presents its first production of the 2018-19 season “The World’s Greatest Detective,” which is written and directed by James Buffington. “There is a new criminal mastermind in London during the summer of 1888, but the Queen isn’t worried. Her Majesty and the people of London rest easy because Sherlock Holmes is on the case. But don’t be fooled, he’s NOT the greatest detective. In fact, he can barely spell. It’s not Dr. Watson, either. He’s not much better. What Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson do have is a young housekeeper. Her name is Ms. Elizabeth Hudson, The World’s Greatest Detective.”

Around DeLaSalle

DeLaSalle students in the new Global Advantage Problem Solving Skills course connected remotely for the first time September 12 with students from Colegio La Salle Paterna in Spain. Students from the two Lasallian schools will meet electronically at least once a week this semester as they work to study and develop solutions to address climate change.
