June 2018

Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.

Lord, help me to rest awhile in the cooling shade of your presence. Slow down my restless heart and fill me with gentle compassion for all your people. Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle…pray for us.

Live Jesus in our hearts…forever!

In the news…

DeLaSalle will be open in the summer. The school building and Main Office will be open MondayFriday between 8:00am-4:00pm, except holidays. You may find how to contact a particular staff member through our online staff directory.

All returning students and a parent/guardian must participate in a required school orientation in August before the new school year starts. Orientation sessions provide a one-stop opportunity for DeLaSalle and your family to prepare for the new school year, including distributing iPads to students, making final uniform purchases, and depositing money into your child’s cafeteria account. School orientations are scheduled August 8 and August 15. Families should watch their email for a link to register for a school orientation session. As a reminder, all new students, including those in the Class of 2022, will participate in New Student Orientation on Thursday, August 16. The Office of Admission will communicate more information about that session.

Please note – uniform orders must be placed before July 13 in order to ensure delivery by the start of school. You may purchase items online here. Contact Douge Schildgen with further questions.

Students registered for some honors or Advanced Placement courses in 2018-19 are required to complete coursework before the new school year begins on Monday, August 21. The assigned coursework is available here.

As a reminder, all students who received need-based financial aid for the 2017-18 school year must complete ten hours of work service before June 30. Students who receive need-based financial aid for 2018-19 may begin completing their work service obligation on Monday, June 4. Please contact Brooks Shelstad to schedule work service hours. Shifts are available:

  • June, shifts available MondaySaturday9:30am-3:00pm
  • July, shifts available MondayFriday9:30am-3:00pm

DeLaSalle Guidance and College Planning staff want to help students in the Class of 2019 be the most prepared for college and encourage students to complete these tasks this summer to assist in their college planning efforts.

  • Fill out your Request For Letter of Recommendation Sheet (available in the document library link of your Naviance account)
  • Talk with your college advisor about whom to choose for your teacher recommenders. Your college advisor by last name is: A-H  Ms. Braun; I-Q Ms. Carter; R-Z Ms. McAdams
  • Review applications for colleges in which you are interested. When is the application deadline? Do you need to do an essay? Do you need recommendations?  How many?
  • Write your ESSAYS if needed. Find the essay questions for the Common Application here.  If three or more of the colleges you’re applying to take the Common Application, DO the Common Application.  Naviance will let you know if the college accepts the Common Application (CA in the little box).
  • Finish your required 60 Christian Service hours and reflection.
  • Visit Colleges
  • Look for Scholarships – Begin with these scholarship search engines

Summer is just around the corner – and DeLaSalle is excited to host Camp Islander – a series of summer camps that help hundreds of local elementary, middle, and high school students build their skills and have fun learning new activities. Explore and register here for camps we offer in boys’ and girls’ basketball, cheer, football, boys’ and girls’ soccer, tennis, theatre, and volleyball.
