DeLaSalle High School is excited to name Chelsea Hammerschmidt as the new varsity girls’ volleyball coach.  Hammerschmidt comes to DeLaSalle with seven years of coaching experience, including the past five at Minnesota One (or M1), one of the most highly respected volleyball programs in the Upper Midwest.  She also served as varsity coach at Trinity School at River Ridge.

She began her coaching career while still an undergrad in South Dakota, where she worked with players from 7th through 12th grade levels.    Coach Hammerschmidt is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and has been an integral coach and trainer in the M1 Strength and Conditioning programs.

The DeLaSalle volleyball program seeks to resume its run of success from 2014-15-16 seasons, when the Islanders had a three-year record of 56-20, were ranked in the Top Ten in the state, and twice finished as section runners-up, one win shy of a State Tourney berth.  Having graduated six senior regulars in the Class of 2017, including two players who earned college volleyball scholarships, the youthful Islanders underwent a rebuilding campaign last year.  The future is bright, however, as ten of the 14 varsity members return, and younger players from the junior varsity and two ninth grade teams look to claim a varsity spot.

Coach Hammerschmidt was able to join the Student Activity Fair on April 21, meeting many of the incoming ninth graders with an interest in playing volleyball at De this fall.  She also looks forward to upcoming summer workouts with current players and to the Camp Islander volleyball camp for students entering grades 4-9 in the fall.  Camp runs from June 10-14.  We welcome Coach to the island!
