This week, the DeLaSalle community celebrates Founder’s Week. This week full of events affirms our Lasallian heritage and connection with the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Each day will emphasize one of the five Lasallian core principles, which are Inclusive Community; Concern for the Poor and Social Justice; Faith in the Presence of God; Quality Education; and Respect for All Persons.

    • Final Special L.E.A.P. meeting will be held during lunches. We will have a guest speaker, Mr. Sam Peterson, who will be speaking about his work at St. Stephens to house homeless veterans.
    • Big Base game after school – come and join us for some community fun! All Are Welcome!

Nomination forms for the Executive Board of Student Council are available in the main office and room B302. All nominations forms are due to Mr. Sczepanski in B302 by the end of today. Elections will take place on Friday, May 4th. Make sure to follow all the directions on the nominations forms carefully.

Are you interested in representing next year’s sophomore, junior, or senior class on Student Council? If so, stop by Mr. Sczepanski’s room or the main office and pick up a form! Interested students must attend an informational meeting on May 1st and complete all other requirements on the form to have their name on the ballot. All required materials must be turned in to Mr. Sczepanski by Tuesday, May 8th, by 3:15pm. Class Representative Elections will be held on Wednesday, May 16th in designated classes for each grade. Please contact Mr. Sczepanski if you have any questions.

Good luck to 42 DeLaSalle students whose projects and research papers will compete in Minnesota State History Day on Saturday, April 28at the University of Minnesota. Once again, DeLaSalle is advancing more projects and more students to State History Day than any other high school in the Metro Region. Continue reading

Catholic Charities presents My Skin & Me: Exploring privilege, and the power to Do Something. Please join Catholic Charities on Sunday April 29th from 10:30am – Noon at Church of Christ the King on 5029 Zenith Ave S. in Minneapolis for an exploration and discussion on identity, privilege, and race in our community. Fresh fruit and homemade pastries are provided!

All AP students were required to attend the AP pre-administration session on April 19th. You are required to make this up during your next available lunch period. Please see Ms. Carter or Ms. Braun in Counseling and College Advising for more information.

DeLaSalle will celebrate seniors and their postsecondary plans on National College Decision Day. On this day, seniors may be out of uniform if they are wearing apparel representing their college or postsecondary decisions. During lunches, seniors are invited to the stage to sign our graduation destination poster indicating where they are attending college, enter a raffle for a chance to win a dorm refrigerator, and get a treat from the counseling office!

If you have a negative lunch account balance, you need to make it positive by Tuesday, May 1 in order to buy breakfast, lunch, or a la carte items from the DeLaSalle Cafe. Click here for information about how to access and deposit money into your account. Please deposit funds into your account by Tuesday, to ensure your account is positive by lunch time. If you receive free or reduced lunch benefits, your account cannot be negative either.

Our speaker who was scheduled for April 19th will be here on Thursday, May 3 during all lunches in room D104. This meeting is mandatory. Lunch will be provided in order to maximize our time with the speaker so, please come directly to the room at the BEGINNING of your lunch period. Thank you!

This would be a summer program for students (16+) that have an interest in helping the families staying in our shelter. Time commitments would be a minimum of 2-4 hours per week volunteering in our early childhood classrooms. If you are interested, contact Tom Golembeck via email.

The Lasallian Ministry office is still seeking participants for the trip to the Blackfeet Indian Reservation this summer. We need at least 10 to make it happen. If you would like more information and to sign up, please follow this link.

Students who participate in after school activities can get a healthy snack starting next Monday. Islanders who stay for after school tutoring, athletics, and activities qualify for the snack, which will rotate and include options like fruit, crackers, milk, juice, cheese sticks, and granola bars. You can also buy grab ‘n go items like chips, sports drinks and leftover a la carte items from lunch. Starting Monday, April 30, the Cafe will be open Mondays-Thursdays from 3:00-3:30pm.

Join the hundreds of students who build their skills and have fun learning new activities during one of nine Camp Islander camps offered through DeLaSalle this June and July. Registration is underway for Camp Islander 2018, with camps for boys’ and girls’ basketball, cheer, football, boys’ and girls’ soccer, tennis, theatre, and volleyball. Click here for more information and to register.

DeLaSalle, in partnership with ACT Ready, will offer a four-week class in June to help juniors achieve their best possible scores on the July ACT exam. The class will meet at DeLaSalle on MondayTuesday, and Wednesday mornings during the weeks of June 11, 18, 25 and July 9. The class costs $200; the cost is $40 for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch benefits. Interested juniors may read more here and are invited to complete and submit an application by May 1. Class size is limited and may be filled before May 1. Questions?
