An Important Message about Student Safety
Maybe more than any other spring, our students are itching to be outside. The season brings many outdoor activities and potential distractions to student learning as well as potential safety risks, which is why we offer some reminders to parents and students regarding student safety:

  • Student drivers should always wear seat belts and drive with extra caution, particularly in the school parking lot and on Nicollet Island.
  • Students are reminded that they are not permitted to walk on railroad tracks at any time; the Park Police consider this trespassing and may issue a fine. Being respectful that Nicollet Island also includes many residents and visitors, loitering on the Island before or after school is not permitted and students may face discipline for being off-limits.
  • As part of its continual emergency response planning efforts, DeLaSalle will host a series of emergency drills during the week of April 16-20. These drills include a fire drill, a tornado drill, and a soft lockdown drill. Staff will also instruct students about how to evacuate the building should the need arise for that kind of response.
2018-19 Tuition Information Arrives in Early April; Tuition Charges Begin in May
This past week, DeLaSalle families who have completed the registration for 2018-19, and, if necessary, also completed the financial aid application process, should have received an email with a summary of tuition charges and financial aid grants and/or merit scholarships. Emails were not sent to families who have not completed the required processes. Please note – the tuition agreements do not yet reflect either the 2018-19 transportation or iPad insurance plan charges. Those charges will be added at a later date. New families will select their iPad insurance this summer when completing required Back-to-School forms.
Families of new students are asked to respond to the email prompt no later than Saturday, April 21 as all payment plans for 2018-19 begin in May. New families should follow the instructions in the email and on the agreement, select a payment option, banking information and electronically sign your acceptance of your agreement. If you are a new family to DeLaSalle and have not received an email by April 15, please contact Ron Rice at 612-676-7601.

For returning students (without an additional child to be added to the tuition account), and as part of our continuous enrollment process, you should have received an email showing a summary of tuition and financial aid grants and/or merit scholarships.  TADS will use the same banking or credit card information provided by families for their 2017-18 agreement. Additionally,TADS will use the same basic payment plan arrangement that families chose for the 2017-18 school year as the payment plan for the 2018-19 school year.  If families need to change any banking or credit card information, their payment plan, or have any other questions, please contact Ron Rice at 612-676-7601 by April 21 to make those changes for the 2018-19 school year.

April 14 ACT Exam at DeLaSalle Postponed

Due to a powerful winter storm that is expected to hit Minnesota this weekend with several inches of precipitation – including rain, freezing rain, and snow – DeLaSalle has postponed the ACT exam scheduled here on Saturday, April 14. We do not yet have a makeup exam date from ACT. Once a makeup exam date is scheduled, ACT will communicate it to registered students.

The decision regarding postponing the April 14 ACT exam only impacts the ACT exam at DeLaSalle.DeLaSalle students who may have registered to take the exam at a location other than DeLaSalle should check here to see if the exam is still being offered at that location. On the webpage, please scroll down and look under U.S. Test Centers to find which sites in Minnesota will not hold the exam. Please note, several other test centers have already postponed the April 14 exam.

Class of 2022 Enrollment Orientation April 21

All incoming 9th graders and at least one parent or guardian must attend a required Enrollment Orientation at DeLaSalle on Saturday, April 21. Almost all students will take an Algebra mastery exam at 9:00am. During the exam, parents are invited to at least two presentations that will help orient you to DeLaSalle. Then, starting at 10:30am, we will offer a Student Activity Fair in which coaches and moderators from ALL of our many Student Activities will be available to provide general information. At the same time, key personnel from various offices – including business/tuition/financial aid, transportation, registrar, and food service – will be available to answer your questions.

Parent Association Plans April 26 Staff Appreciation Day

Help the DeLaSalle Parent Association celebrate our terrific staff on the annual Staff Appreciation Day! All teachers, administrators, and support staff are recognized on this day. Plans call for a Welcome and Continental Breakfast for the staff when they arrive for the day, as well as a tasty lunch. Each staff member also receives a thank you gift. A committee of current parents — including Parent Association co-chairs, Jackie Schluter Johnson and Luann Mishler, –has been organizing the event. Now, we extend a call for other parents to help with the event.

TO VOLUNTEER OR DONATE: Click here to access an online form where you can indicate how you may wish to volunteer or contribute to the day. Many parents enjoy spending part of the day with each other – and all for a good cause! If you have questions, please contact Parent Association co-chairs, Jackie Schluter Johnson or Luann Mishler. If you prefer to make a cash donation toward the cost of meals and treats for the staff, please send your donation to Parent Association staff liaison, Mike O’Keefe, at DeLaSalle.

Around DeLaSalle

Islanders enjoyed a treat when Maureen Headbird, the grandmother of two DeLaSalle students, made Indian fry bread that was served during lunch April 12 as part of our Minnesota Thursday initiative to bring locally sourced food to students. Maureen made an estimated 400-500 pieces of fry bread which students topped with taco fixings. The experience let Maureen share with Islanders a cultural tradition she learned from her mother. The fry bread was such a hit that some Islanders went back for seconds! Thank you, Maureen, for being so generous with your time and talent.
