DeLaSalle parents are invited to join the monthly Parent Association meeting on Monday, March 12 to hear from former Minnesota Principal of the Year, Dr. Bruce Locklear. Dr. Locklear will share insights on “The Challenges and Opportunities of Raising Children in a Technological World.” The meeting begins at 6:30pm in the Schulze Lab (D104), and all DeLaSalle parents are invited to attend the presentation.
All of us are becoming more and more engaged with technology – and perhaps less engaged in conversation with our children, colleagues, neighbors and others. There likely are moments in every family for more balance, more “presence” and more interaction. Dr. Locklear, who was named High School Principal of the Year in 2010-11, will share perspectives gleaned from over 30 years in high school and post-secondary education and from his lived experience working with thousands of students, and most importantly, from raising two daughters, now grown to adulthood.
Dr. Locklear, a native of South Carolina, has spent most of his educational career in Minnesota. He “retired” at the end of the 2016-17 school year after 10 years as principal of Edina High School. Now the Director of Educational Relations for Jostens, Dr. Locklear regularly shares his accumulated wisdom with groups of parents in schools and other organizations. Previously, Dr. Locklear served as superintendent and principal at Owatonna High School, as principal at Delano High School, as a professor of education at Southwest State University, and as an adjunct professor at Bethel University.
As always, snacks will be plentiful, as will opportunities to meet other parents and share perspectives with each other. All De parents – including those in our newest Class of 2022 – are members of the De Parent Association by virtue of enrolling their daughter or son. Hope you can join us.
