As a reminder, all out-of-uniform guidelines from the Student-Parent handbook are in effect for Winterfest Week: This means “No yoga pants, halter tops, tank tops, or bare midriffs; no sunglasses; and only knee length shorts and skits will be permitted” at any time during the week. Students in violation of these guidelines will be required to wear a uniform from the loaner closet.

In today’s news…
Officers of NHS will be leading meetings for the entire NHS membership Today in D104. The meeting will take place during the first 15 minutes of your lunch. Please come to the meeting immediately after the bell and plan to eat afterward. Details of the Spring tutoring program and other announcements are on the agenda.
Are you interested in saving a life? Do you know how to administer CPR or use an AED? If you answered Yes to saving a life or No to knowing CPR, this is an opportunity for you. Mr. C is looking for individuals that want to learn how to perform CPR and use an AED. Mr. C is an American Red Cross instructor and wants to certify students who want to be CPR/AED certified. Please fill out this form with your name and lunch hour, if interested.
Students, please take a minute or two to complete a short survey about your experience with the online learning day we had on Tuesday, January 23. Your feedback will help us improve how we conduct online learning days in the future. You can find a link to the survey in your email inbox.
On Wedneday morning at 7:30am, in room D104, a handful of Islander seniors will sign national letters of intent to play women’s soccer and football this fall at Division 1 and 2 schools. Islander students and families are invited to attend the signing and congratulate the student athletes.
The community will gather for our Catholic School’s Week Mass on Wednesday, after first period. We welcome Fr. Michael Joncas as our celebrant.
Please join us on Wednesday at 3:30pm in the Thies lab to have fun learning about coding apps, business innovation, and entrepreneurship. It is a lot of fun as well as eating cookies and snacks.
Once again Islanders will serve a meal at Sharing & Caring Hands on Thursday, February 8, 2:35-3:45. If you would like to help, email Ms. Barry at MaryBeth.Barry@delasalle.com. Space is limited to 8 students.
Who Can Donate Blood? Students who are 17 or 18. Students who are 16 may sign up by having a parent fill out the Parental Consent Form which is in the Main Office. When/Where: Friday, February 9th, from 8:00am to 2:20pm at the L.L. Gray Gym. Students should go to the Main Office to sign up for the blood drive during their lunch period, a study hall, or after school, not before school.
2018 Prom Committee: Any Juniors or Seniors interested in helping with organizing this year’s Prom, please send an email to Ms. Brinson before Friday, February 16. An email will then be sent by Ms. Brinson to confirm your participation and to discuss our first meeting and next steps.

Each year, the DeLaSalle Alumni Association selects junior students to receive an Alumni Legacy Scholarship. This year, you may also be considered for the Hinz Award – an award created in honor of Wally Hinz’ 60 after his passing in 2017. The Hinz Award is open to ALL junior students and evaluates academic performance, community involvement, leadership and Islander Spirit. This is a spirit which Wally exuded throughout his life as an active member and advocate of the DeLaSalle Community – in particular with his leadership in DeLaSalle’s Alumni Association.
The applicant must meet the following criteria to be considered:
1. Must be a Junior graduating in the Class of 2019
2. Must be enrolled for the Fall 2018 Semester
3. Legacy applicants must have had at least one relative that is an alum of DeLaSalle, MN
4. Must have a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Would you like to be a part of the planning team for Social Justice Week? We will have planning meetings every Tuesday morning from 7:45-8:20 in the Lasallian Ministry office. All are welcome. Please e-mail Ms. Hodapp if you want to participate. The theme this year is Human Trafficking
Students are invited to participate in the Missing Voices conference at St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis on Thursday, February 15 during the school day. The 2018 conference focuses on educational equity with special emphasis this year regarding native, immigrant and refugee voices by embracing the idea that We Are All Related (Mitakuye Oyasin). In Lakota tribal education one gains knowledge from firsthand experience in the world and then transmits or explores this knowledge through ritual, ceremony, art, and appropriate technology. The essence of this concept is that our lives are truly and profoundly connected to others and the world around us. Now, in this time of division and polarization, we must recognize ourselves in the faces of others, particularly historically marginalized groups. The Missing Voices Summit allows for an exploration of commonalities and differences through an examination of self and others in our combined journey along a timeline of immigration.
