The DeLaSalle community has shown its generosity in the last month, directly supporting the latest generation of Islanders.  By virtue of alumni, parent and friend support of the October 14 Christian Brothers’ Gala and the second-annual “De Day of Giving” on November 2, DeLaSalle has raised more than $660,000 toward its budgeted commitments in financial assistance and school operations for 2017-18.

“What a remarkable show of support for the work we do at De!” said president Barry Lieske.  “It’s a lesson for all of our students that adults in this community inside AND outside the building truly care about their stories and about their success.”

The annual Christian Brothers Gala, held on October 14, reached new levels of generosity in the event’s 18-year history.  Many in our community stepped forward and gave generously of their time, talent, and treasure, including 135 adult and student volunteers under the direction of Gala coordinator, Brenda Irvin, and the DeLaSalle Advancement Office staff.  It was an honor to welcome Archbishop Bernard Hebda to the Gala, the first such visit by an Archbishop in the event’s history.

With particular gratitude, we thank Tom ’54 and Sandra Glodek and Roger ’54 and Irma Scherer,  each for their generous matching challenge donation toward the Gala’s “Bids for Kids”. Through the generosity of over 375 attendees, we exceeded the challenge match and raised gross revenues of $560,000 in the “Bids for Kids”, live and silent auctions, ticket sales, and more.

For the second year in a row, DeLaSalle held its own “De Day of Giving” on November 2, under the direction of Director of Annual Programs, Christian Glanville `11 and the work of the Advancement Office staff. The Islander community again rallied to support the school, raising $106,000 to date, exceeding the single-day fundraising goal. The DeLaSalle Advancement Office continues to process checks and other donations that were sent directly to the school in support of the initiative.

The “De Day of Giving” also gave DeLaSalle the opportunity to introduce and grow our Monthly Giving Club – and we were able to do just that. We now have more members of the Monthly Giving Club and are looking for more sustainers!

Monies raised from the Gala and the “De Day of Giving” help the school meet its fundraising goals for fiscal year 2017-18, balance the operating budget yet again, and fund the $3.0 million allocated in financial aid grants and merit scholarships for this school year.  THANK YOU!

If you have not had a chance to participate in the Christian Brothers’ Gala or the “De Day of Giving,” we would love for you to join the momentum and help us support DeLaSalle. Please consider joining the Monthly Giving Club, or giving a one time gift. We are grateful for your support.  Donate Now
