Around DeLaSalle

DeLaSalle hosted a pet blessing October 4 in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Islanders brought their four-legged friends to Founder’s Park for a blessing from school chaplain, Fr. Joe Kuharski. Students who traveled to Bolivia this summer through the Global Advantage program came up with the idea for a pet blessing after seeing many stray dogs in the South American country. Safe Driving In and Around DeLaSalle

All of us can benefit from a friendly reminder about safe driving in and near DeLaSalle. Please follow these best practices as you arrive at and leave from DeLaSalle:

  • Student drivers should always wear seat belts and reduce their speed in the parking lots and streets around the school.
  • Drivers and pedestrians should follow all marked signs. This includes coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.
  • Drivers should avoid using mobile phones while driving.
  • School buses and DeLaSalle vans arriving each morning have the right-of-way on the drive in front of DeLaSalle. Parents/guardians arriving at school with their children should drop off on the curbside closest to school and NOT use the visitor parking spaces.
  • In the afternoon, buses are the only vehicles allowed to pick up students on the drive in front of the school. The City of Minneapolis has installed “15-minute loading zone” street signs on West Island Avenue that allow parents/guardians to temporarily wait along the curb closest to the school to pick up their children. Please be courteous to our Island neighbors and others who use the Island by pulling as close to the curb as possible to let other vehicles pass.
  • Please keep the front of DeLaSalle clear to allow for activity buses to transport students to and from practices and games each day. Activity buses often stage in the front of school once afternoon school transportation routes leave.

Thank you for your role in keeping our community safe.
