Registrations are coming in every day for the 2017 Christian Brothers’ Gala on Saturday, October 14. There still time to join the fun at our only all-school fundraiser. The Gala raises more than $350,000 to directly support De students. The evening includes live and silent auctions, dinner, and entertainment. Reconnect with old friends. DeLaSalle Theatre Fall Musical “Xanadu” Opens

DeLaSalle Theatre debuts its first performance of the 2017-18 season, with the fall musical “Xanadu.” Performances are September 29 and 30, and October 6 and 7, at 7:30pm in the Florance Center. Clio, the precocious Greek muse decides to put on some rollerskates, legwarmers and an Australian accent in order to help Sonny Malone, a chalk artist with half a brain and a heart of gold, rediscover his own creativity. With both help and hindrance from the other muses,Sonny and Clio work to rebuild their “apex of the arts”: a roller disco. Tickets are $15 for reserved seats; $10 for general admission; $8 for non-DeLaSalle students and seniors; and free for De students with current school ID.  Reserve your seat today!

Islanders Celebrate Feast of St. Francis with October 4 Pet Blessing

The DeLaSalle community will gather to bless our beloved pets on the Feast of St. Francis! Join us on Wednesday, October 4 at 6:30pm in Founder’s Park. School chaplain, Fr. Joe Kuharski, will bless our pets in the tradition of St. Francis who preached to the birds and talked to “brother wolf.” Animals must be on a 6′ leash (retractable leashes must be locked) or in a pet carrier. Humans must bring this permission form, signed by a parent or guardian. Bring animal treats to share!

11th Grade Holds Class Retreat October 6

During this all-day retreat, 11th graders will reflect on the themes of servant leadership, responsibility, and spirituality in a diverse world. Students should look for more information in a separate email and in The Source next week.

12th Grade Class Mass

Tuesday, October 3

The fall series of class Masses concludes with the 12th grade class on October 3. Every other grade attended their class Mass in September. School chaplain, Fr. Joe Kuharski, celebrates the Mass, which has been held at nearby St. Boniface Catholic Church while Our Lady of Lourdes undergoes renovations. Each grade will have a class Mass again in the spring semester.

October Madness for Seniors

Friday, October 6, 3:10-4:10pm, B103

October is College Knowledge Month in Minnesota. DeLaSalle’s Guidance and College Planning office holds multiple event during the month to assist students with their college applications. Chill & Dill (pickle) Nite is October 6. Let the power of the dill pickle pucker inspire your essay or application. If you’re just starting or just need the final touches, join our workshop. College Prep Work Day with staff & experts on hand to review essays and assist with applications. Other events are scheduled for October 13 and 27.

Parent Association Meeting

Monday, October 9, 6:30-8:00pm, D104

All DeLaSalle parents are invited to attend the monthly Parent Association meeting. Guest speaker, Dr. Theresa Boatman, will present. It was great to see so many at the September meeting. By virtue of your enrollment at DeLaSalle, you are already a member of the Association, and we welcome your involvement and help.

Academic Mentor Meetings

Tuesday, October 10

Students will meet with their academic mentor to check on their academic progress before Parent-Student-Teacher conferences.

All School Testing for 9th, 10th, 11th Graders

Wednesday, October 11

Students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades will participate in All School Testing on Wednesday, October 11, while 12th grade students are excused from school and are strongly encouraged to use the day for college visits.  Continue reading

DeLaSalle President Barry Lieske welcomed University of St. Thomas President, Dr. Julie Sullivan, for a campus tour and meeting September 25. Along with DeLaSalle Trustee Larry LeJeune ‘54, the two presidents explored ways the Islanders and the Tommies can strengthen their partnership.

Sign Up for Canvas Observer Account

With Parent-Student-Teacher conferences approaching, now is a good time to learn more about your child’s academic progress. You can track your child’s grades, coursework and calendar by creating a Canvas Observer account! Parents will need to know their child’s Canvas username and password to create an observer account. Islanders Invited to Participate in U Penn, Jesuit Excellence Tour

DeLaSalle students are invited to meet with college representatives during two specific upcoming college events:

  • The University of Pennsylvania will hold a workshop at DeLaSalle about selective college admissions. The workshop is Wednesday, October 4, from 7:00-8:00pm, in D104. This is an excellent opportunity to hear from the college side about how admissions to highly selective colleges differs from other college admissions processes.  You will also learn what to prepare for and expect if you think you may be applying to selective colleges this year or in the future. All islander parents and guardians are welcome to attend.
  • Jesuit colleges and universities from the United States will bring their Jesuit Excellence Tour (JET) to DeLaSalle on Friday, October 13, from 9:00-11:00am in D104. Twelve of the 28 Jesuit schools will be represented at DeLaSalle. Interested students should sign up to attend through their Naviance account and also complete an Anticipated Absence form. DeLaSalle Operates Football Shuttle October 6

DeLaSalle will operate a free shuttle for fans attending the Friday, October 6 home football game versus Park Center. Free overflow parking will be available in the parking lot at 301 on Main (301 Main St. NE). Shuttle service will begin approximately 45 minutes before kickoff and again after the game. Islanders to Attend October 7 NET Lifeline Mass

Islander students will again participate in the NET Ministries Lifeline Masses. The first Mass is Saturday, October 7 at 6:00pm and free transportation is provided from DeLaSalle (leaving the parking lot at 4:30pm) and from St. Mark’s Catholic Church in St. Paul (leaving at about 4:50pm). Teenagers resonate with the GREAT music and message geared toward them in this dynamic Mass. The group will go out for pizza after and be done about 10:00pm. Students should click here to sign up.

DeLaSalle Hosts Respect for Life Month Baby Drive

DeLaSalle will again collect items for babies and infants as it celebrates Respect for Life Month in October. The drive benefits Northside Life Care Center in Minneapolis. You may donate clothes, diapers, formula, toys, and more to the Lasallian Ministry office – located on the first floor of Christian Brothers’ Hall, through the archway behind the B building – by October 31.
