DeLaSalle Theatre debuts its first performance of the 2017-18 season, with the fall musical “Xanadu.” Performances are September 29 and 30, and October 6 and 7, at 7:30pm in the Florance Center. Clio, the precocious Greek muse decides to put on some rollerskates, legwarmers and an Australian accent in order to help Sonny Malone, a chalk artist with half a brain and a heart of gold, rediscover his own creativity. With both help and hindrance from the other muses,Sonny and Clio work to rebuild their “apex of the arts”: a roller disco. Tickets are $15 for reserved seats; $10 for general admission; $8 for non-DeLaSalle students and seniors; and free for De students with current school ID.  Reserve your seat today!

School Picture Retakes Scheduled Tuesday, September 26

Picture Retake Day is Tuesday, September 26, for those students who would like to get their school picture retaken or who were not present for the original Picture Day on August 24. Picture retakes will occur on the creative side of the Thies Lab during student lunch periods. Students who want a retake must bring and return their entire original photo packet. Students who have not yet picked up their first set of photos may find them in the Main Office.

Parents in Prayer Gathers Monday, September 25

This Parent Association sponsored activity will kick off its third year of gathering parents on campus monthly to lift up the school community in prayer. The first gathering is Monday, September 25, from 8:30-9:30am in the Florance Center. Students, staff, and families may place prayer requests in prayer boxes in the Lasallian Ministry office, Main Office, or Theology classroom. Prayer requests may remain anonymous.

11th Graders Attend National College Fair Wednesday, September 27

All juniors will attend the National College Fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Wednesday, September 27, from 9:00-11:00am. DeLaSalle will provide transportation to and from the event for students. School counselors have visited classrooms to give juniors instructions on how to make the best of the college fair experience.  Doing a criteria search on Naviance (the organizational tool used for college planning) will help students narrow down which colleges to visit at the fair.  Please encourage your student to do this before the fair. The fair will also occur September 27, from 5:00-8:00pm, for those parents who would like to attend the fair with students. Please contact Beth Braun (for students with last names A-L) or Barbara McAdams (last names M-Z) with questions.

Metro Transit Fares Increase October 1

The cost of riding a Metro Transit bus or light rail will increase Sunday, October 1, under a fare hike approved this summer by the Metropolitan Council. DeLaSalle sells Metro Transit bus passes for students. The cost of a 10-ride Student Go-To card will increase from $13.50 to $15.00. Unlimited Fare Student Go-To passes, which are purchased quarterly, will increase from $87.50 to $97.00 per quarter. Future quarters begin November 3, January 18, and April 3. Continue reading

Around DeLaSalle

DeLaSalle extended Islander hospitality September 20 to the 12 international students who are pursuing a high school diploma in the United States. The International Student Orientation featured De staff to help orient students and their host families to various school services. A representative from the University of Minnesota’s International Students and Scholar Services presented on what international students need to know as they apply to college. Islanders Invited to Participate in U Penn & Jesuit Excellence Tours

  • The University of Pennsylvania will hold a workshop at DeLaSalle about selective college admissions. The workshop is Wednesday, October 4, from 7:00-8:00pm, in D104. This is an excellent opportunity to hear from the college side about how admissions to highly selective colleges differs from other college admissions processes.  You will also learn what to prepare for and expect if you think you may be applying to selective colleges this year or in the future. All islander parents and guardians are welcome to attend.
  • Jesuit colleges and universities from the United States will bring their Jesuit Excellence Tour (JET) to DeLaSalle on Friday, October 13, from 9:00-11:00am in D104. Humans must bring this permission form, signed by a parent or guardian. Bring animal treats to share!

Mass, Prayer Opportunities Offered

DeLaSalle students are invited to participate in several Mass opportunities.

Teenagers resonate with the GREAT music and message geared toward them in this dynamic Mass. The group will go out for pizza after and be done about 10:00pm. Students should click here to sign up.
  • Students and parents are invited to participate in a short prayer gathering each Thursday at 7:50am in the school Chapel, located on the 2nd floor of Christian Brothers Hall (enter through the Lasallian Ministry by the archway). All are welcome.
