The first monthly meeting of DeLaSalle Parent Association is Monday, September 11, from 6:30-8:00 pm, in the Schulze Learning Lab, Room D-104, the space at the heart of the campus and adjacent to the two main entries. Please plan to join us!
On Monday, in addition to social time for parents to meet other parents, the Association welcomes guest speaker and licensed family therapist, Corey Busch. Corey, a former teacher and co-host of the podcast “The Teen Mind,” has more than a decade of experience working with teens and their parents. At the PA meeting on Monday, he will offer advice on “How to Better Communicate with Your Teen,” a dynamic presentation that has been well-received by parents of middle and high school students in other Twin Cities communities.
All DeLaSalle parents are invited to actively participate in the DeLaSalle Parent Association, which meets formally on the second Monday of every month throughout the school year and organizes several events to better connect parents with other parents for the benefit of the school and all students. By virtue of your enrollment at DeLaSalle, you are already a member of the Association, and we welcome your involvement and help.
A special invitation is extended to all parents who are new to DeLaSalle to join us on the 11th and throughout the year. It was great to meet so many of you at the Parent Meet-and-Greet in May and/or at Back-to-School Night on August 30.
Parent Association co-chairs for 2017-18 are Luann Mishler, parent of Sam `18 and Emma `19, and Jackie Schluter-Johnson, parent of Otto `17 and Gabby `19. On Monday, Luann and Jackie will also share the calendar of 2017-18 meetings, speakers and activities — and field suggestions for future topics important to parents. More information will be available on the monthly Parents-in-Prayer series as well. The treats will be good. The conversation will be better. Questions are anticipated. New ideas are always welcome. We hope to see you on Monday night!
“S’mores Mania” at the Homecoming Bonfire
The Association sponsors a number of activities each year that benefit the school. The first such activity occurs on Friday, September 15th, when the Association will once again provide s’mores at the annual Homecoming Bonfire at De. The Parent Association has managed this project since 2002 – and the Student Council (which plans and manages the entirety of Homecoming Week) enthusiastically extends the invitation to the Parent Association to help once again. We will share more details about “S’mores Mania” and have a sign-up list available when the Association meets on Monday night.
The staff liaison for the Parent Association is Mike O’Keefe, who also is the parent of three De alums. If you have any questions about the meeting on the 11th or the “S’mores Mania” event on the 15th, please contact Mike at email@example.com.
