In today’s news…

Today is Holy Thursday. And we will gather as a school community for a Lenten prayer between first and second period as we prepare to celebrate the death and Resurrection of Jesus.

DLS Cycling Club will ride after school today. We will ride along West River Parkway and will explore the U of M campus, including the Washington Avenue pedestrian bridge. If you picked up a waiver last week, please get it signed by your parent or guardian and bring it back this week.

Students are encouraged to bring their bike to school that day and to lock it to a bike rack outside the building. All participants will be required to wear a helmet in order to ride. We will meet in room A206 from 3:15-3:30pm and will ride from 3:30-4:30pm.

DID YOU KNOW!?   The theme for the 2016-2017 yearbook is Did You Know?

The Yearbook Committee is sponsoring a virtual Easter egg hunt that will run until Friday, April 21st. You will find 10 Easter Egg Posters throughout the school. Scan the QR code on each of the Easter Eggs and answer the questions. Everyone who answers the questions correctly will be entered into a drawing for gift cards. *You will need to download a QR Reader app or you can type in the URL.

There are no classes on Friday as we observe Good Friday, nor are there are classes on Monday, April 17 (Easter Monday) or Tuesday, April 18 (staff professional development). Enjoy your long Easter weekend, Islanders.

Team pictures for spring sports are scheduled over the next couple of weeks. Team coaches will have picture forms. Team pictures are scheduled:

All 12th grade students will participate Wednesday in their final class retreat. This is a full day event where you have the opportunity to meet with your classmates, build class unity and share. Here are some details regarding your retreat:

  • Attendance is mandatory. If you miss a retreat day, you are required to make up their absence through the guidance of Lasallian Ministry.
  • Uniform is required.
  • Bring a bag lunch; one beverage will be provided. As you prepare your bag lunch, please do not include any foods that contain nuts or peanut butter of any kind. Please check food labels to ensure the food is not made with or contains any nuts. We ask you to keep this in mind because of a classmate who has a severe food allergy.
  • Please leave all books, bags, purses, headphones, iPads, cell phones, etc. at home or school. These items are not allowed on retreat.
  • The retreat will run during the school day only. You will check in to first hour for attendance and announcements and will move to the Albers Atrium to board busses.
  • Please come with an open and positive attitude and you will have fun.
  • Any questions or concerns should be directed to Ms. Hodapp in the Campus Ministry office during your lunch period.

Tenth grade students will have their vision screened on Wednesday during their Theology classes. Students who have corrective lenses should wear or bring them to the screening.

Help us take care of Nicollet Island and be good neighbors at our 10th annual Island Clean-Up Day. Co-sponsored by the Parent Association and the student GREEN team, we invite all De parents-staffstudents0friends to work in groups to clean up the Island. Bring a rake and gloves, if you have them. Help us rake, bag and hunt for “treasures”. We will also have a few gardening projects. Join us after your hard work for a free BBQ hosted by the Parent Association. Last year, nearly 40 Islanders volunteered and collected 45 bags of trash.

Want to have a say as a student leader? Consider running for Student Council!

Executive Board nomination forms are now available and due on Wednesday, April 26. Elections for the Executive Board – Student Council president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and public relations – will be held on Thursday, May 4.

Current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students interested in serving as a class representative can pick nomination papers starting April 24. Those forms are due May 8, with elections for class representative on May 17.

Please see Mr. Sczepanski, Mr. Hank or Mr. Zavitz with any questions. Nomination forms can be picked up in the Main Office or Room B302.

Tickets are now on sale for the Junior-Senior Prom on Saturday, April 29 at the Nicollet Island Pavilion. Tickets are $65 if you buy them before April 17 or $75 after that date. Click here to buy your tickets online or you can buy them in the Business Office. De students may bring a non-DLS guest, but must complete this dance guest registration form.

Students with special dietary needs may email Ms. Brinson or stop by to see her in the Student Activities office before Friday, April 21.

We are in need of student volunteers for the 2nd annual Founder’s Day 5K the morning of Saturday, April 29. Student volunteers will help with:

  • Kids Fun Run
  • Face Painting (w/ Ms. Kiya)
  • Giving out Refreshments
  • Set-up
  • Breakdown
  • Bounce House Monitor
  • Handing out Ice Cream for Beat the Principal
  • Water Stations
  • Packet Prep 4/26 – After school 2:45pm – 4:30pm
  • Volunteer Check-in
  • Run Registration help
  • Helping direct traffic to finisher events

You will be eligible for Christian Service Hours for helping at this event. If you are interested, please e-mail Ms. Luckett by Friday, April 21.

Reminder that there are 3 summer Theology institutes being offered on college campuses this summer. These are opportunities to earn up to 30 Christian Service Hours. Recruiters from the programs will be here during lunches in the coming weeks. Please watch The Source for more information. All of the programs have different costs but there are scholarships available if you are interested and the cost is prohibitive. Information and brochures can also be found in the Campus Ministry office.

Also, there are two service immersion trips being offered by DeLaSalle

Students are invited to take advantage of a fantastic opportunity to get some face time with an admissions representatives who may be reviewing your college application in the future. Start building these relationships now and it will benefit you in the future! Attend a college fair at Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Tuesday, April 25 from 7:00-8:30pm.

Click here to sign up for a free bus to and from the event. A bus will leave DLS at 6:30pm sharp and return to De at the end of the fair, 8:30pm.

You may also drive to the fair on your own. Parents and caretakers are welcome to go with you, they can even ride the bus with us. Check in at the table with Ms. Carter and Ms. McAdams when you arrive.
