Today marks the start of the second semester. We hope you enjoyed a relaxing Christmas break and we are excited to welcome you back. Good luck in all of your classes this semester.

Youth Leaders in Diversity (YLD) is an inclusive student-led initiative focused on educating students in diversity and promoting self advocacy.  Explore and discover self identity, expression and unique perspectives.  The first meeting of YLD will be on Wednesday, January 11 at 3:20pm in D117. Food and chill.

The next Out of Uniform Day will be Wednesday, January 11. You must buy a wristband in order to dress out of uniform. Wristbands will be sold Monday and Tuesday during lunches in the Florance Center for $1 or for $2 before school on Wednesday in Albers Atrium.

The deadline to apply for a summer Global Advantage Program student exchange is Friday, January 13. Current 10th and 11th grade students interested in traveling and living in Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Germany and Italy may apply. These exchanges will happen between June and August. Please visit the Global Advantage webpage to see information on eligibility requirements, application forms and procedures, as well as details on costs and locations.

The Chess Club kicks off 2017 with its first meeting on Tuesday. Players of all skill levels are welcome. Chess Club meets from every Tuesday 3:15-4:30pm in A208. See Ms. Kocourek with questions.

The February driver’s education class, taught by Ray Kroll ’60, will be taught Feb. 13-17, 21-24, 27, from 3:30-6:50pm. There is a mandatory parent meeting February 13 at 7:00pm. Classroom instruction costs $110 and behind-the-wheel instruction costs $330; students who register for both the class and behind-the-wheel instruction will pay $399.

Join us Monday at 6:30pm in D104 for a panel discussion of young De alums currently in college, sharing their retrospective wisdom about the college planning process, transitions, and first-year experience with current De parents. Recommended for all parents in a college prep school, but this program may be particularly helpful to parents of current juniors and seniors.
