July 2016

Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.

Lord, let me find the quiet time this summer to hear your voice and feel your calming presence. Amen

Saint John Baptist de La Salle…pray for us. Live Jesus in our hearts…forever!

As we look to begin our 117th year of Catholic, college preparatory education, we ask families to partner with us in completing several steps as part of our back-to-school process.

On July 6, DeLaSalle emailed a set of annual forms to be completed for each child as part of the back-to-school process. These six required forms gather information from your family to help us gain state and federal funding, retain important medical information, and provide your student with a school-issued iPad. As a reminder, please complete these forms as soon as possible and no later than Friday, July 28. The school sent the forms to a student’s primary contact, which means, for example, that both sets of parents of students who live in multiple households will not each receive the forms.

Once the online back-to-school forms have been submitted, parents will receive a separate email within seven days that will prompt pre-registration for School Orientation / iPad pickup. Returning families are invited to select a two-hour window in which to pick up their iPad between 10:30am-6:30pm on Wednesday, August 10 or between 12:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, August 17.

All parents and families who are new to DeLaSalle (Class of 2020 and transfers) are asked to come to a more extensive “New Family” Orientation program on the evening of Thursday, August 18. This program will include a Welcome Cookout, presentations from various administrators, explanations of school practices and protocols, and more.

Students who will be in 11th grade in 2016-17 and students who are registered for an Advanced Placement or Honors course next school year likely have required coursework to complete over the summer before school begins. Click here to see a class-by-class description of what work is required.

Students interested in trying out for a fall sport are encouraged to register for the sport by completing an online registration form included in a July 7 email from DeLaSalle. Students should complete this form by midnight on Monday, August 1. The first day of practice for all fall sports is Monday, August 15. The registration is not binding and there are no fees associated with registering.

Students and parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to attend the Student Activities eligibility / fall athletic coaches meeting on Wednesday, August 10 at 7:00pm, following school orientation. The meeting will be about 20 minutes and cover important DeLaSalle and state high school league eligibility policies. Coaches of fall athletic programs will hold team meetings after.

New and transfer students will learn even more information about DeLaSalle activities and athletics programs during New Family Orientation on August 18 at 6:30pm.

Students who want to participate in a sport at DeLaSalle must ensure a current physical is on file (current is defined as within the last three years), and complete required MSHSL paperwork. A blank physical form is available here. Families will complete the MSHSL Eligibility statement as part of their required back-to-school forms (see story at left).
Several Twin Cities health and sports medicine providers offer free or low cost sports physicals. Click here to find a provider and free physical near you.

Students should have a notebook and folder for each class, along with pens and pencils. Each teacher and course may have specific school supply requests, which will be communicated on the first day of school.

Students in Algebra 1 and Geometry should have a scientific calculator. Students in Algebra 2, Precalculus, Statistics, and all Calculus classes should have a graphing calculator. Note: Casio graphing calculators are not recommended.

The School Store will again sell draw-string bookbags this year that are the only approved bag for carrying items during the school day. Backpacks are to be used only to carry items from home to school and back.

Guidance & College Planning staff invite students and parents to participate in three different events that will assist them in their college planning process.
