DeLaSalle Digest

Happy Independence Day!

While students are away on summer break, the island continues to bustle with activity. Between trips all across the Americas, spring sports leading to summer sports, and ACT preparation and summer classes, our students have remained busy and engaged.

The physical space around the island continues to transform; we are only one month away from the opening of the largest addition to DeLaSalle in more than 50 years. The Center for Innovative Learning will be completed by the beginning of the school year, with tours of the new facilities starting Alumni Weekend.

Many are preparing to leave town for holiday activities, while others are simply looking forward to time for relaxation with family and friends. We wish you all a safe and joyful Fourth of July, and thank you for your continued support of DeLaSalle!

June Gift Matching Update

Thanks to an anonymous donor, every gift was matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000 in the month of June. Over 270 generous members of the DeLaSalle community united to donate more than $135,000 for deserving students. What an incredible success! We are immensely grateful and proud to share in a community that cares so much about investing in the students. Thank you so much to everyone who chose to continue their support!

Islanders Are Everywhere!

Look at where our students have gone this summer! Global Advantage Program (GAP)- and Lasallian Ministry-led trips have sent our students all across the Western Hemisphere. In June, a group of students went to Ecuador and met other Lasallian students while taking in the stunning scenery and rich local culture. Another group represented DeLaSalle at the Lasallian Youth Conference. A third group went to Colorado to perform service work.  Currently, a group is in Costa Rica learning about anthropology, economics, and biology. In coming weeks, a group will return to Blackfeet Reservation in Montana to assist in rebuilding a school and to attend North American Indian Days. Islanders are on the move and sharing their gifts and talents in service and education! Blogs and details on these trips can be found here for GAP trips and here for Lasallian Ministry trips!

Lasallian Youth Gathering

Each year, Catholic and Lasallian High Schools from the Midwest District gather for a week of prayer, service and community building during the Lasallian Youth Gathering (LYG). This year’s gathering was held at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee from June 20th – June 24th. The students were called to grow together throughout the week under the theme “Journey Together”.

The Lasallian high schools represented at LYG 2016 include:

  • Bishop Kelley High School – Tulsa, OK

  • Christian Brothers High School – Memphis, TN

  • DeLaSalle High School – Minneapolis, MN

  • DeLaSalle Institute – Chicago, IL

  • Montini Catholic High School – Lombard, IL

  • Totino-Grace High School – Fridley, MN

Students completed various service projects throughout the city of Memphis. Lasallian Youth also had special opportunities to visit and tour DeLaSalle at Blessed Sacrament Elementary School, have lunch at The Caritas Village, explore downtown Memphis and experience the breathtaking National Civil Rights Museum. Next year’s LYG will be hosted at St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota where the focus will be on building our Lasallian community.

Underclassmen Honor Roll

Congratulations to students who have been named to the second semester Honor Roll. Students with a semester grade point average of 3.0-3.8 are named to the Honor Roll; those with a semester GPA of 3.8 or better earn a place on the High Honor Roll.

DeLaSalle also extends congratulations to those 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who received an underclass academic award for outstanding achievement, improvement, or effort this school year. Each teacher may nominate one student from each period in which they teach for an award. Recipients receive a certificate that is mailed with second semester report cards.

Filling Spaces: Admissions Update

Logo Flowers

If DeLaSalle meets its enrollment goals by fall, this will be the largest enrollment at DeLaSalle in 45 years. We are truly blessed by the students and staff at DeLaSalle who create a positive atmosphere and experience for prospective and incoming students and their families. Read More about how the Admissions Office is still filling limited space available for the 2016-17 school year.
