As a community, the Islanders gathered together to celebrate our Lasallian heritage and pay tribute to our founder, the Patron Saint of Teachers, St. John Baptist de La Salle during the annual Founder’s Day Mass. The 1st Annual Founder’s Day 5K Unites DeLaSalle Community
DeLaSalle Islanders of all ages gathered on Saturday, April 30th to run and walk the 1st annual Founder’s Day 5K! With over 105 participants, nearly 70 student, alumni and parent volunteers, and our partnering sponsors, the 5K was well received and a great success. The event featured something for everyone: a bounce house, music, face painting, a kids fun run, concessions and a friendly competition against Principal Benson. Join us next year for the Founder’s Day 5K run/walk! Use it as a tune up race or just come for a little fun!

DeLaSalle Students Advance to the State and National History Day Competition
Twenty-one projects advanced to the Minnesota State History Day Competition on May 1st. Eight projects placed in the top five in their category. Many projects also received Honorable Mention awards or a topical prize. The projects submitted were incredible and expressed a variety of interests in topics and presentation (documentary, website, exhibit, paper or performance). Congratulations to sisters Joanna and Jovanna Lopez-Ramales who will be moving on to the National History Day Competition at the University of Maryland in June. Read More…
DeLaSalle Island Clean-Up

Starry Night Prom: A Special Night forAll
Each year, the Lasallian Ministry Office hosts one of the largest events of the year, the Starry Night Prom. The Starry Night Prom is a night for all those in the community living with disabilities and this year’s luau theme will have our guests ready to party! Over 200 students are involved with the planning of the event. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 7 and is expecting a record number of guests. Read more…
Board of Trustees Member Recognized
Congratulations are in store for a member of the DeLaSalle Board of Trustees. Gary Wilmer, a lifelong advocate for Catholic education, has been recognized by the Catholic Servant newspaper as “Catholic Servant of the Year!” Thank you, Gary, for your leadership and belief in the mission of DeLaSalle and the value of a Catholic education throughout the Twin Cities.
Alumni Legacy Scholarship Recipients Recognized during Founder’s Day
Each year, the Alumni Association awards Alumni Legacy Scholarships to junior students who exemplify the values of St. John Baptist de La Salle and their family tradition through their academics, Christian service, church, and school involvement. This year, 13 students received Alumni Legacy Scholarships and were recognized at the Founder’s Day Mass. Alumni Association Board President, Patrick Kaiser ’74 and Alumni Association Board Representatives Anna Mazig ’04 and Wally Hinz ’60 joined the students and their parents for an honorary breakfast to celebrate their achievements.
Alumni scholarships are made possible by the funds raised at alumni events like the golf tournament and class reunions. Thank you to the Alumni Association for their work and to all who continue to support the mission of DeLaSalle with their time, talents and gifts.

Dick and his family most recently ran in the DeLaSalle Founder’s Day 5K. He came to the race with his wife, two of their daughters and 10 grandchildren!

Brian Dorr ’02
Brian Dorr recently accepted a position with Hennepin County as their Senior Human Resources Leader. Dorr will be moving from position with Sears managing their Human Resources Department throughout the Midwest.

During June and July, DeLaSalle’s Camp Islander offers nine different summer camps in drama and athletics for elementary, middle and high school students. Each camp offers outstanding coaching and directing, with emphasis on fundamental skill development for participants. Students may sign up for a single camp or multiple camps!

This is a busy Saturday. Alumni Soccer Games commence in the morning and many of the reunions are held this day. Later, in the evening, there are School Tours and an Alumni Mass.
