Christmas will be merrier this year for seven local families, who will benefit from the generosity of DeLaSalle students and staff.
The Islander community raised $4,000 – much of it loose change donated by students in their classes in November – to purchase clothes, toys, other gifts, and gift cards for 30 people through the school’s 23rd annual Christmas Basket project. A group of students, accompanied by Lasallian Ministry staff, bought the gifts after school in early December.
DeLaSalle has for many years adopted families through the Aliveness Project and Sponsor A Family Minnesota. The school also donated Target gift cards for homeless teens at Mary’s Place and provided gift cards for some current families in need. Islanders also donated nine boxes of supplies for Minnesota military women and men who are deployed this Christmas.
Parents lent a helping hand to the cause on December 14 when the Parent Association sponsored a social and opportunity to wrap the gifts students had purchased for the families.
