May capped off another remarkable year on the Island! We celebrated our Lasallian heritage on Founder’s Day, thanked and celebrated those who make a DeLaSalle education possible during our Lasallian and Alumni Scholarship luncheons, welcomed the Class of 2019 at the Freshman Welcome Party and bid farewell to the Class of 2015 through the Baccalaureate Mass, Alumni Induction Reception and graduation ceremonies. We also broke ground on the new Center for Innovative Learning (or CIL), which will reposition academics at the center of the campus and provide innovative learning space for teachers and students to collaborate, discover, and utilize technology that will prepare students for college and career. This project is the fourth multi-million dollar enhancement to DeLaSalle facilities since 1990 alone. Click Here to read more about the project. You may also visit our CIL webpage to keep up with the construction status.
We invite you to stay connected throughout the summer. We understand if you can’t visit, but help so we can keep you in the loop through our e-newsletters and mailers! You may update your contact information with us by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or completing our online form.
Remember, our E-newsletter will now come to you at the beginning of each month to ensure that you have the opportunity to engage in all of the great things that are happening at DeLaSalle.

Students & Staff Recognized for Excellence
DeLaSalle remembered in a special way at its Founder’s Day Mass three Christian Brothers who have had a profound impact on the school. Auxiliary Bishop Andrew Cozzens led the school’s annual celebration of its namesake, St. John Baptist de La Salle, and the school community recognized a handful of students and staff for their service, leadership and commitment to the mission and values of DeLaSalle. We congratulate Mike O’Keefe ‘78 and Brother David Barth ‘61 for reaching 25 years of service to DeLaSalle. They are among only 17 staff members in our school history who has served at least 25 years. Click here to read more on Founder’s Day and to view the recipients of the Alumni Scholarship, Giving Tree Awards, Liemandt Excellence in Teaching Award and Distinguished Lasallian Educator Award.
Serving in the Summer: Colorado Service Trip
DeLaSalle returns to Colorado for a week in early June, where a group of students and staff are volunteering to rebuild national forests destroyed by wildfires in 2013. This year’s service trip follows in the footsteps of the service completed by the first group in June 2014. Click here to follow the students’ service adventure through the Colorado Service trip blog
The Tradition Continues:
The Class of 2015 – which at 203 members was the largest graduating class in the last four decades – went out with a bang as they collected their “prize” on the steps of the Basilica! Continuing in tradition, excited and nervous, this class marched, stood, and threw their caps together as one. Distinguished Scholars Hannah Brand and Joseph Moeller gave compelling senior addresses while graduates had the privilege to have Auxiliary Bishop Andrew Cozzens deliver the commencement address. It was a special night for parents, friends, faculty and staff to witness the growth of every student in this class and come to fruition the “prize” – the DeLaSalle diploma.
Every year, DeLaSalle recognizes graduating seniors for their accomplishments and excellence in activities, academics, athletics, and fine arts. A select number of students receive the DeLaSalle and Islander Awards. The awards are chosen upon the recommendation of faculty, staff, coaches, and administrators. Students who excelled in all areas made the selection difficult for the Class of 2015. Click Here to see a list of Senior Award Recipients.
A Strong Year End for Activities
Islander teams across the board are finishing strong. Check out these highlights:
History Day Recap No other Minnesota high school – except for DeLaSalle – qualified multiple national finalists at the Minnesota History Day competition on May 2. Alumni Fun Facts!
Elisabeth Zarnoti ’13
Elisabeth Zarnoti attends Knox College in Galesburg, IL and will be a junior next year. She is a self-designed major in Business Communications with minors in Psychology and Japanese Studies. She is very involved her sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha. Elisabeth states, “De gave me strength to feel more confident in my endeavors as a student and a young professional. I learned the value of teacher mentorships, good quality research skills and dedication to whatever you do – whether that is studies, arts, sports or work.” She continues, “In many ways, I can see Knox as an extension and an expansion of my time at De – small class sizes, professors who care, and connections to last a lifetime. I do not believe I would be living the same college experience had I not had the educational and personal training I had at De.”
Elisabeth will be interning as a Digital Intern at iHeart Media beginning the summer of 2015. Coincidentally, she will be joined by Ben Albert ’13. She explained she had no idea that would happen but it will be nice to have a familiar face in an unfamiliar workplace. #IslanderNation
