The Islanders knocked off Mankato East 74-40 to advance to the boys’ basketball state championship Saturday at 5:00pm at Target Center. Top-seeded DeLaSalle faces #2 seed St. Paul Johnson.

Avoid long lines and pre-buy your game ticket during lunches today or between 2:30-3:30pm tomorrow. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $9 for students.

Fan buses to tomorrow’s game will leave from the front of DeLaSalle starting at 3:45pm. We will hold a Welcome Home celebration after the game.

The Islander girls’ varsity basketball team finished the season the Section 3AAA runner up, losing to Park Center last night. And congratulations to assistant coach John Patterson, who was named the Section Assistant Coach of the Year.

There’s still time to see the spring musical “Babes In Arms”. Showtimes are 7:00pm tonight and 8:30pm tomorrow. Please note the start time for tomorrow has been pushed back so fans can attend the boys’ basketball state championship. Tickets cost $15 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission, $8 for non-DeLaSalle students and senior citizens, and free for DeLaSalle students with your current student ID. Set at a summer stock theatre, a group of young apprentices mount an original revue they’ve created while dodging the underhanded attempts of the surly theatre owner to squash their efforts at every turn. Further complications are provided by the inflated ego of a hack playwright. Featuring the songs, My Funny Valentine, The Lady is a Tramp, Good Morning and more.

The Minnesota Department of Education recently notified DeLaSalle of a change in AP exam fees and subsidies, which brings the cost up $10 per test, changing the total cost to $43.00 per test.  DeLaSalle started the registration and payment process prior to this information becoming available.

If you have already paid for your test please send an additional $10 per test by Friday, March 20. Students who qualify for free of reduced lunch will continue to have a cost of $0 for each test.  A limited number of scholarships are still available.

Vision screening will be done for 10th graders on Monday, March 16 during Social Studies classes. Rescreening will be held Monday, April 13. Students, if you have glasses or contacts, please wear them on Monday. Thank you.

The boys’ golf season starts Monday. Please meet in A116 right after school.

The DeLaSalle Theatre student ensemble presents The Cask of Amontillado, based on the short story by Edgar Allen Poe, March 20-21 at the Phoenix Theatre (2605 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis). Shows are at 7:00pm on March 20 and at 3:00pm and 7:00pm on March 21. Tickets are $12. DeLaSalle students get in free with a current school ID. Email Mr. Buffington with questions.

Normandale Community College will host a Latino Family Night on Tuesday, March 24 from 5 to 7pm in the Kopp Student Center. The night will help students who would be first generation to college and their parents gain a better understanding about the college and resources available to assist them including:

  • A panel of Latino Normandale students sharing their experiences at the college
  • Information about the MN Dream Act & FAFSA
  • Scholarships for undocumented students

The $20 application fee will be waived for anyone submitting and application for admission at the event.

The Art department is excited to announce DeLaSalle’s 2015 Senior Art Show. Any senior who has taken two or more art classes is eligible to submit one example of their best art work. The collection will be on display at Sebastian Joe’s from May 2nd through May 16th. If you’d like more information, please see Ms. Lundstrum. Forms may be picked up from the folder on the door of B109. Permission/entry forms are due Friday, March 27th.
