Wednesday, October 29, 2014 – Diversity Week

Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.

Lord, bless today’s soccer game with fairness and a spirit of competition, keep the players free of injury, and may all hold their head high regardless of the outcome. Amen

Saint John Baptist de La Salle…pray for us. Live Jesus in our hearts…forever!

Classes are canceled today because of the Class A state boys’ soccer semifinal game at St. Cloud State University. Teachers may be available for individual help and feedback about coursework; they will communicate their availability separately.

Morning transportation routes (Minneapolis & St. Paul/suburban) will operate on a normal schedule this morning for those students who plan to go to the game. Students are responsible for their own transportation home today.

All college visits take place in the Guidance office, unless otherwise noted. Please get a pass from your teacher to meet with the college representative. Please note, the college representative visits scheduled for Thursday may be canceled or rescheduled should the boys’ soccer team win this morning’s game.

On Tuesday, November 11, we will gather for a Veterans Day Mass to honor those Islanders who have served or are serving in the military. Parents and alumni are invited to RSVP to Jessica Luckett if they want to attend the Mass.

If you have a friend or family member who you would like included in a veterans honor wall, please send their name, a picture, their years and branch of service, and any other details to Ms. Luckett by Wednesday, November 5.

Learn about the creation methods used by professional ensemble theatres to generate original ensemble works; including the March 2015 DeLaSalle production of A Cask of Amontillado at the Phoenix Theater in Minneapolis, during a workshop Saturday from 12:00-4:00pm.

In the first part of the workshop, students will learn the essentials of Theatrical Viewpoints – Tempo, Duration, Kinesthetic Response, Repetition, Gesture, Architecture, Spatial Relationship and Topography – to develop a shared language that focuses on communication with your fellow artists. Students will then be introduced to Stations work – tools used to rapidly generate original content while eliminating the internal edit buttons that inhibit creativity. Using their new creation skills students will compose and present original pieces of theatre for their workshop classmates. A feedback session will follow.

This will be a fun, active workshop where you’ll learn to use your mind and body like an instrument of creation. Bring a water bottle and come dressed to move (sweats, gym clothes)

Workshop hosted by Matthew Glover and Danielle Siver. Please RSVP to Mr. Buffington if you plan to attend.

Lasallian Ministry WILL NOT meet tomorrow morning. If school is in session, plan to come to Lasallian Ministry for game day tomorrow during lunches. Anyone who comes to play games will receive a raffle ticket and at the end of lunch, someone will win a prize.  We will also have candy treats.
Congratulations to DeLaSalle Quiz Bowlers Hannah Brand ‘15, Alex Harris ‘15, Julian Spencer ‘16, and Cameron Swenson ‘15, who qualified this past weekend for the Quiz Bowl national championship, which will be held the weekend of May 30, 2015, in Chicago. This is the 9th straight year in which DeLaSalle students have qualified for nationals.
The Yearbook Troll is hiding again. Find the Troll and return it to Ms Beckman in the Library & Technology Center. The student who finds the Troll will receive a $5 gift card of their choice. Reminder that Yearbooks are currently $46, order forms are available in the Attendance Office and in the Library & Technology Center.
Attention senior parents – yearbook parent senior ads are now on sale. All order forms are due by Saturday, November 15. Click here for more information.
The Islander varsity football team plays on Friday (Halloween) at 7:00pm in the section championship for the chance to go to state! The Islanders have the #1 seed and play #2 seed Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students.

A reminder that everyone, including students, must pay at section playoffs.

There will be no Art Club meeting after school today – because we don’t have school. Let’s cheer the varsity boys’ soccer team to a win!
You saw them yesterday at the Diversity Week kickoff. Now YOU can join the ONYX Step Team during the first practice/informational meeting this Friday at 7:30am in the Robert Casanova Room. We will discuss the season, practice schedules, expectations, financial obligations and start learning the basics of stepping. If you are interested or just want to know more, please join us at this first practice! The cut off for joining the DeLaSalle ONYX Step Team will be Friday, November 21.
How about getting everyone at your lunch table (or two) to pitch in a buck to give little one a lovable Lil Toy? Do it for the little kids who have so little. Bring items to Lasallian Ministry all month.
