Sophomores, you will gather this morning for your class Mass. Please put your belongings in your locker after 1st period and go to the Florance Center. You may want to bring a light jacket to wear when you walk to Our Lady of Lourdes for the Mass.
Juniors, you will gather as a class for a retreat tomorrow. This is a full day event where you have the opportunity to meet with your classmates, build class unity and share. Here are some details regarding your retreat:

  • Attendance is mandatory. If you miss a retreat day, you are required to make up your absence through the guidance of Lasallian Ministry
  • You must be in uniform on retreat day.
  • Bring a bag lunch, one beverage will be provided.
  • All books, bags, headphones, cell phones, iPads, etc. must be left at home or school. These items are not allowed on retreat.
  • The retreat will run during the school day only. You will check in to first hour for attendance and will move to the Albers Atrium to board buses, which will bring you to the retreat site.
  • Please come with an open and positive attitude and you will have fun.
  • See Ms. Hodapp in Lasallian Ministry with any questions or concerns.

Students – join the counselors and presenter Lori Lindeen in the Robert Casanova Room for a College Essay Writing workshop TODAY from 3:15-4:30pm. Lori teaches at the Loft Literary Center and has many years of experience coaching students in writing college essays. Attending this workshop will help you get started on your college essay or give you some great ideas for working on as essay in progress. Take advantage of this wonderful and free resource!
All seniors and parents are invited to learn more about the college application process during Senior College Planning Night tomorrow from 6:30-8:00pm in the Robert Casanova Room. Join us for an evening that will get you, and those helping you with your post high school plans, moving in a direction that will be helpful for all involved. Your counselors will be give a presentation and have time for questions and answers. It will be informative and fun. All are welcome!
Parents are invited to come to the Guidance and Counseling office, B104, from 7:30-8:30am TODAY to have croissants and coffee with the counseling staff. This will be a monthly event with a different topic for discussion each month. This month we will be discussing and overview of services that the guidance office offers. If you are wondering how the guidance office can support your family in the areas of college planning, social and emotional support, or academic support this session will be helpful. Stop in on your way to work for some hospitality and get to know us and other DLS parents, all are welcome!
DeLaSalle will host two events to raise money toward cancer research and fight a disease that has affected many within our families and personal lives.

  • The volleyball program will host a “Dig Pink” night on Thursday, October 2 to support cancer research when the Islanders host the Columbia Heights Hylanders. There will be various ways to donate on this night; we hope to see you there.
  • The DeLaSalle football team will host “Tackle Cancer” Night at its last regular season home game on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00pm. We as Islanders will join the effort of both the Minnesota Football Coaches Association and the Randy Shaver Cancer Foundation. Come support the Islanders and have a chance to participate either through a half-time contest or donation at the gate when you enter.

A reminder to all students – We’re producing a 9th grade show this year and we want De students to help write them. Any current De student may enter. The submission deadline is TOMORROW. The rules can be found on the DeLaSalle Theatre page and on the Call Board right outside the Main Gym. All short plays/stories/poems/ideas are welcome. Email James Buffington with submissions and/or any questions.
DeLaSalle Theatre is hosting a information meeting for all parents and De theater enthusiasts to kick off the new season. We’ll meet on stage in the Florance Center on Thursday at 6:00pm. You’ll learn more about this year’s student theater opportunities, meet the artistic staff, and find out how you can take part in the many parent-supported theatre activities throughout the year. Join the fun in Lasallian Ministry during Lasallian Game Day during lunch on Thursday! Bring your lunch, come hang out with your friends and play a few games. Bring your own game or we’ll have some to play. See you Thursday!
The DeLaSalle community has made a commitment this year to raise funds for a non-profit called h20 for life. We will be partnered with a school in a developing country in need of water, filtration resources, and hygiene education.
All students must display a valid parking permit in their vehicle in order to park in the school parking lot. Vehicles without valid parking permits may be ticketed and/or towed. No more parking permits will be sold.
If you have a negative lunch account balance of $5, you will not be able to buy food in the DeLaSalle Cafe starting on Monday, October 13. Instead you will receive a bag lunch with a sandwich, an apple, a bag of carrots and milk. You or your parents/guardians may put money into your cafeteria account by depositing cash or a check in the Main Office. Families may also deposit money electronically into cafeteria accounts. All seniors – remember that all of your Christian Service hours must be documented no later than January 23, 2015. This is less than four months away! Now is the time to figure out your plan. Stop by Campus Ministry to see Mr. Hallman for tips, forms and information which can also be found on the Christian Service webpage.
Project for Pride in Living Youth Development has two volunteer opportunities to help students from low-income families achieve success in school and life. Apply today to volunteer at one of these locations:

  • PPL Scholars @ Obama Elementary is a one-on-one tutoring and mentoring program for students in grades 1st-8th living in affordable housing. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30pm at 707 Holly Ave, St. Paul.
  • PPL Scholars in New Hope is a one-on-one tutoring and mentoring program for students in 6th-10th grades living in affordable housing. Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm at 5501 Boone Ave, New Hope.

Three instructors will provide fall ice instruction at Minnehaha several times in October. Instruction is scheduled Monday through Thursday with captains running instruction on Fridays. Instruction times are from 5:00-6:00pm the weeks of October 13 and October 20 and from 5:30-6:30pm the weeks of October 27 and November 3. There is a cost associated with the instruction.
