A senior pitcher and third baseman who swung a hot bat and muffled hitters all season has scored a series of honors in recognition of his stellar performance.
Jake Tank earned the Section 4AA Player of the Year award. He was also named to the 2014 Class AA All-State team and will play June 20-21 in the All-Star Series at Chanhassen High School. Tank was named a Star Tribune Prep Athlete of the Week and an ASPIRE Athlete semifinalist early in the season. Tank also received the DeLaSalle baseball award this year.
Tank posted a .522 batting average in his final season with the Islanders – placing him among the top 10 hitters in the metro. Tank’s keen eye and patience at the plate has helped him earn a career .355 batting average, driving in 60 runs and scoring 42 runs.
Tank pitched his way to a 7-2 season record, striking out 58 batters and holding opponents to less than one run when he’s on the mound. Tank has surrendered just 19 earned runs in 114 innings pitched over his career. He has struck out 124 batters on his way to a 12-5 career pitching record.
Coach Douge Schildgen ‘85 called Tank an outstanding leader. “It has been an honor to coach Jake and watch him grow from an 8th grade boy into a young man,” Schildgen said.
Tank is a four-year letter winner, three-time Tri Metro All Conference member, two-time Section 4AA All Section selection and senior captain.
